The various standard kennel brands offer lots of choices for their mats, but I've found with a young pup, (almost) housetrained, a couple of old towels folded up to make a matress is a good start ,as they are veasily replaced and washed as needed.

I bought each of my dogs a crate that they could use when they were fully grown. But, when they were very young, and unhousetrained, I put a large square, safe plastic container inside of it, toward the back to make it smaller. That did not allow the pup 1/2 the space to pee in, and 1/2 the space to sleep in. When he was big enough, I just removed the container. Much cheaper than buying two sizes.
