Well Dylan doesn't have any trouble lifting his leg, in fact I do worry that one of these days he'll tip over.

But, as my Monty girl is not able to properly squat anymore, I'm very aware of there the urine lands. We have always had a particular potty area, as I've mentioned before, dug down, fiiled with sand and then topped with smooth pebbles. The liquid goes right down, and it's easy to keep hosed down too. There is a round cement paver for Dylan to balance on with his one back leg, and a nice big stone for him to aim at.

What? No reading material or scented candles? How are they supposed to do their business in such deplorable conditions? Tsk Tsk Barbara!!

If I was a dog in Barbara's neighborhood, I would tunnel under the hedges to use that potty area! You really go above & beyond!!!

What a great idea...we have an area of grass and one small spot of landscaping stones that does overlap into his pen, and he really does like that area to got potty...maybe we will make that a little bit larger so he has a better area to go potty...smart design and amazingly beautiful photo of your yard...you want to adopt me, my hubby , dillon and the three kitties?

So he still does it, he ends up peeing on his front leg and then he smells like pee until I wash it off.

My problem is that Lulu sometimes wanders into the target pathway! Or Tuckmand his buddy Charlie will get into a peeing contest and each will wander into the stream/path to sniff and make sure the other has actually found the right spot.

I mean he doesn't pee on himself, but he tends to miss the spot he is aiming for and it leaks on the concrete and on to him...
Probably, as he gets older his aim and balance should improve.

No they don't. The youngest I've ever had that lifted his leg was 4 mos. but most are doing so by 6 mos.

Leg lifting is often a learned behavior. If they don't have other males around or aren't walked where they smell or see other males then they might still squat. However, most I've known start lifting their legs at about 5-6 mos. old.

Susan,
