Miscellaneous Behaviours -
11-29-2006, 07:35 AM
ChloeLouise is 18 months old now and is a sweet-tempered, cheerful dog. I believe she understands right from wrong (appropriate/inappropriate) and more often than not choses to conform to the household "rules". When scolded, she "apologizes" - when she "steals" contraband, she relinquishes the item (unwillingly, but...) without too much resistance. She HATES being brushed but we have a terrific groomer. I can mess with her food and bowl, and she is VERY friendly with strange dogs and children. Having said all those positive things, she does have some completely INSANE behaviours!! The other day she came upon the fly swatter which happened to be on the back entry floor...Chloe became UNHINGED!! She barked hysterically at it, snapping, and yipping and SQUEALING! You would have thought an alien species had invaded our home!! I tried to show her it was "okay" but she lunged at it even more fiercely!! Finally I threw it down the basement steps...thank goodness the "fly season" is over! She reacts similarly to recycling - when we squish cans or milk jugs to recycle she rushes in from whereever she is and barks in a frantic, highpitched way and jumps at the "offending" item! And DON'T sneeze in our house if you don't want a crazed Corgi in your face!! I have tried to determine WHAT sets her off - is it the noise?...the "startle factor"?... But here is the final crazy behaviour - my husband and I can "snuggle" only when Chloe is out of sight!! A hug and kiss hello or goodbye sends Chloe into a frenzy of barking! I think she is being protective or jealous...but nevertheless, it is, shall we say, "restrictive"!! So, just wondering what other quirky Corgi behaviours are out there in otherwise calm, goodnatured dogs!!

Does your fly swatter happen to be in the shape of an animal I can't say that Cody has found any object in the house that seems to concern him, however, if one of the cats is coughing as if they have a hairball, he runs over to them right away as if to ask "what is wrong with you and can I help you"
Cody will do the same thing, bark while standing at our feet, when a display of affection is exchanged( hug/kiss to hubby or kids) - but he has gotten better. We just ignore him; but I know that is not always easy to do.

The only strange behavior Chip has that I notice anyway is his herding Lady and now Jasmine to their food dish. He will even nip their fanny in an effort to get them to hurry. Chip used to be afraid of the vacuum cleaner but he has gotten over that one also.

I don't get the whole sneeze thing. Tucker will be sound asleep in another room and if I sneeze he comes running and jumps up on me. ?????
Lulu barks at inanimate objects like garden shovels. ?????

Dillon barks and lunges at a moving broom or snow shovel. He hates these items and feels they are a threat. He used to be this way with the vacuume cleaner, but after many months of consistant corrections he now sees the vacuume cleaner come out of the closet and he goes down stairs and gets on the couch and waits for me to be done with the whole house. I guess i have to do that with the broom and the snow shovel. Hubby and I can hug, he doesn't bark, he just jumps up on us...he just wants to be included in the lovin'

Miss Gambler is just plain crazy! What's ironic, is that the puppy she just found is showing signs of being an Alpha, so my husand and I can't wait till she grows up some because Miss Gambler may very well have met her match, and it will be her very own fault. There is justice after all!!!

Rupe is a broom freak!!! He loves to attack them and he'll chase it all over like a crazed fool. I have to lock him out of the room when I sweep.
Jemma was watching him last night like he was nuts! I hold the broom and put the sweep end on his butt and he'd spin forever if he could trying to get the silly thing. It's a good way to burn those extra calories though

Rhys does this, too! He goes absolutely NUTS! And sometimes if I cough or clear my throat, I see him prick up his ears and get ready to come jump on me!
Count Rhys in on the "brooms drive him batty" crowd, too.
The weirdest thing Andy does is to make circles when it is time to eat! I go over to the dog food container and she just goes around and around and around...

What is it with the broom? I think Jespah has come up with a Corgi exercise routine. Couldn't you just see a Corgi exercise video, all the corgis working out with the brooms?

When Taylor somehow gets from the back of our property to the front by way of a neighbous property and a little use of the public pavement - and waits in our front door shelter to be let in, he always puts on the slink act - I know I've been naughty and went against the regulations, but please don't be mad at me - and of course he gets away with it. Sometimes he prefers to wait by the front door for entry inside that to stay around the rear of our property which is large and interesting but without the human companionship.
And interestingly, when he waits by the front door after sneaking from the back, he never has once done anything else, vocally or with his four feet, but wait patiently, though the whole world is his oyster in those moments.

Duchess does not like the vacuum. She nipped at it when I bring it out and I correct her, but when she is excited from something else. she goes over to the vac and nips again as if to get her angst out on the vac.
