I suspect that these pups will end up "free to good homes" or at the shelter. There are several annoying people in my neighborhood whose dogs run loose. The lady who owns the beagle should be able to let her dog out in her own fenced yard, but with half a dozen dogs running around...she probably should have had the sense to supervise her beagle while the dog was in heat.

I suspect you're right.

And yes, she should be able to let her dog out in the back yard but with dogs running loose, I'd have been very cautious anyway. They have been known to climb fences too.... so yes, she should have supervised her a bit better too. Or spayed her....

Yeah, I hope she isn't blaming the other guy because it was both of their faults. Seriously, leaving your dog that is in heat outside for a long period of time is bad enough, but leaving her in your backyard in a neighborhood where you know that dogs are running loose is retarded.

Sounded like she is blaming the guy from what he said. She must have seen his dog in her backyard with her beagle...otherwise how does she know which of the loose neighborhood dogs is the father? But you are correct...she also bears some responsibilty for her dog's condition.

I suppose she could hit him with a potential fine though. It's against city ordinance to let your dog run loose here, with up to a $500 fine. Several people let their dogs run anyway. (We had a threatening little terrier dog charge toward us barking and growling yesterday and today during our walks.) I expect the police are too busy/understaffed to actually enforce the ordinance...unless someone's loose dog actually injures or kills someone or their pet.

Charlie and I just ran into the owner of the unneutered poodle who runs loose in the neighborhood. I see the dog almost every day, but haven't seen the owner since November until today.

I asked him about the beagle who his poodle had impregnated. He said, "Oh, the owners told me that their dog ran away." Sound fishy to anyone else? I have a feeling that momma beagle and baby poo-eagles went to a shelter and may finally have a small chance at finding responsible owners if they're not euthanized.

The guy also said about his dog, "I just let him run around. He seems to know the neighborhood pretty well now." (Question: Is "Stupid" enough justification to beat someone over the head????) I had Charlie on a leash and just said, "Yeah well, I wouldn't let this little guy out of my sight. Too many wackos running around these days." It was a somewhat pointed remark...went right over the guy's head I'm sure.

.....just grumbling and venting....

I'll bet you're right. Hopefully a rescue group took them in.

Unfortunately not. But you can report the dog running loose to animal control and have them pick him up. Maybe a fine can get through to this hard headed owner.

Yes, well there'd be a much better chance of the police showing up (to get me) if I had slapped the owner for letting his dog run everywhere, than of the "dog police" coming out to give the neighbor a fine. I posted earlier that there isn't enough staff here for them to answer "loose dog" calls unless the dog has injured another animal or human.

Anyway I was just venting (since I held my tongue with the neighbor) and was frustrated when Charlie and I got back home.

Sorry MattC...this is your thread about Corgi's jumping up on people. I took it off an a tangent starting when Charlie was jumping all over my neighbor. The guy letting his poodle run all over made me more upset than Charlie's jumping problem.

Has Nick gotten any better about jumping up? Charlie still thinks it's a great way to greet people...and I'm still trying to get him not to jump. LOL
