Loss too much for Taylor - 08-26-2007, 02:11 AM

One of my neighbour's two dogs, Judy, aged nearly 17, died a few days ago. Judy was very well liked by Taylor who doesn't care a great deal for my neighbour's other much younger dog (Maggie). So I took Taylor and Alice (the Pem Corgi I am currently looking after) to visit the grave containing Judy and a very distraught owner. Off-leash, Taylor didn't want to stay around after an initial look over the garden and he headed down the long winding driveway. Taylor stopped when I called him but refused to return and stood his ground. We left the property with me realising that out of respect and grief, Taylor didn't want to hang around a place that had a firm friend present but no longer living. How we are going to do agility training on the same neighbour's property in future, time will tell if time will heal.

Michael

That is so sad - poor Taylor. Aladdin is buried in our backyard and after we lost him, Digger and Jasmine went down and sat beside his grave for a long time then they just walked back together but they both always avoided that section of yard after that. digger is buried right beside Aladdin and my dogs still avoid that area. Hope Taylor does better.

Dogs often seem to have a very good understanding of death. Our previous corgi, Mouse, was originally my Mum's dog. Mum died at home and a couple of weeks later we were there with Mouse. It was the first time Mouse had been in the house since Mum died. Mouse went down to Mum's room, of her own accord, sat down by the bed and just HOWLED. It was very un-nerving to witness.
