puppy problems - 10-29-2007, 06:34 PM

I have had Toby for 3 weeks now. He is about 16 weeks old and crate trained. He makes it through the night without going out and for a couple weeks now I have not come home for lunch and he has made it through the day just fine. Today I come home from work and to my suprise he has peed in his crate and was gagging and coughing and threw up a little bit and coughed something small up. He also peed so much inside. I let him out when I got home and he took forever to pee which was not normal. We came inside and he peed on the carpet instantly. I picked him up in the act and ran him outside, needless to say he didn't go. I brought him in and it happend again. That time we stayed outside and he peed two more times. We waited outside until his father got home and when he did we all went inside and he peed again!!! This has never happed before. He goes out 4 times max in the evening. He went to the vet this weekend and was deemed very healthy but had a skin infection. He was put on simplicef, an antibiotic. Could this be the problem? Why the change in bladder behavior? HELP!!!

Some antibiotics can upset a stomach, but I've not heard of them causing bladder problems.

He might have a bladder infection. I'd have the vet take a look and see if he can get a urine sample. Puppies pee a lot but this seems much more than normal. Is he drinking a lot too? If not he could ge dehydrated.

pups will have accidents. As they grow, they learn and they'll be able to hold their bladder longer. Darwin had accidents up until he was a year old...not many, but it did happen. I suggest keep the crate training like you have been and take the pup out as often as you can. Praise when he goes outside, correction when he goes inside. Eventually, your dog will know. Good luck
