I've heard of people stopping mid-preparation and walking away when their dog starts barking, and trying again after the dog stops barking. If the dog begins again, they just repeat the process. Also, withholding the food until the dog is quiet would be a good idea.

Your little Corgi is telling you to hurry up because he is hungry and he is very excited in awaiting his/her meal which is one of the highlights of the day - if not THE highlight. If you must insist he/she stops talking and yelling so much try distracting - offer something to chew, get someone else in the family to play games with your Corgi, put your Corgi in a quiet place (like a bathroom or a bedroom) until the meal is served. Must be some meal you prepare. Me, I'd say it was all part of what makes a Corgi so special.

Is Bella trained on "Sit", "Down", "Wait"? I find that mealtimes are the perfect opportunity for a few minutes of training. I have also taught Charlie "Speak" which gives him permission to bark.

I feed Charlie outside on the patio and he doesn't actually see me prepare his food. I take his food outside, then take him outside. We have a routine now. "Sit!" He sits and gets hand-fed a piece of kibble out of his bowl. Same with "Down", then "Sit", then "Speak" then "Down", then "Wait". He gets hand-fed kibble for each command he does. Just after "Wait", I put his food bowl down on the ground and he has to stay Down a few seconds. When I say "Free! Good Boy!" he's allowed to come eat.

I think if you get into a short training routine before mealtimes, he'll be more interested in "pleasing you" for his dinner than he is in barking at you for dinner.

HA! good luck! Mine do that too and I have several.

With one dog, as someone said, teaching that sit or down and stay might help. With multiple dogs, well, I just ignore it and get on with filling bowls and getting them delivered.

(And be glad you don't have a parrot that cimes in on the barking with the dogs....)

Well Peggy - we are finally in agreement LOL My Digger would bark for me to feed him and I just ignored him and got on with it. Do you have a parrot? I had a cockatiel that used to whistle for the dogs and he also sounded like he was barking.

Well, sooner or later huh? It's just too much trouble and too time consuming to try to quiet down several dogs. Quicker and easier to just fill and deliver the bowls.

We have an Orange Wing Amazon Parrot. He barks at dinner time like the dogs do. I have to give him a peanut before I start filling dog bowls. And sometimes he wants a few kibbles too. He can do wolf calls and talks some but not much. And why he hasn't learned to say "QUIET", "hush" or "SHUT UP!" when the dogs bark I have no idea!!!

A friend of mine had an old dog and a parrot. She really loved the dog and did everything in her power to keep that dog alive. Well finally she had to put it to sleep and the parrot kept calling for the dog, he would say the dog's name and she couldn't stand it so she gave her bird away too. Sad story.

Your parrot probably likes to listen to them bark. That cockatiel of mine would talk to Digger. I would hold Digger up to his cage and he would come down from his perch and make little tiny clucking sounds to him and Digger would try to kiss him. Now that bird would bite any hand even the one that fed him but he always loved Digger. Birds are funny and so entertaining.
