Waeryn is Upset

My boyfriend and I just got home from work, we have both been gone all day long (10:15am-8:00pm). There have been people home all day and they have left her in her crate for no longer than a few hours without a break from it. She has been outside to go to the bathroom several times as well. When I got home I gave her lots of love and took her outside again. She is missbehaving pretty badly, she's barking at people, nipping excessively and not listening as well as she normally does. The people who were watching her today said that she has been like this most of the day. Is she just upset because we were gone for so long? Or does it sound like something else is wong? The people who were watching her today dont seem to know how to dicipline her, so could she maybe be acting like this because all day long she has gotten away with it? Any suggestions on what I should do?

How old is she?

Dogs live in the here and now. They don't worry about what was or what could have been. She might not have liked that you were gone but once you're home they forget that and are glad you're there.

And yes, if she got away with misbehaving earlier she might try to get away with it again.

Whatever her reason, don't allow her to get away with things. If she knows better expect what she knows and disipline her as you usually do. If she knows any commands (sit, down, etc.) have her do some of those for treats and that will remind her that you are in charge and she has to do what you say.

Thanks Peggy. She is calming down somewhat, but is still not quite at her normal behavior. I played with her with some of her toys and also did a short training session (sit and down). She didn't listen to my commands quite as well as normal and barked at me during part of it. I kind of tired her out by playing with her and after that she sat with me on the couch as was calm for about 5 minutes, but then lept up and started terrorizing the cats for a while. Right now she is listening better, but not quite as well as normal. She's playing with one of her squeaky togs and is growling at it a lot more than normal. I am starting to think that maybe she got left in her crate for longer than they told me and she was just hyper from being cooped up for too long. She is 10 weeks old tomorrow.

It is possible that she was crated longer than she should have been and that she just needs some attention and to burn off some energy.

I hope she returns to normal soon.
