If you're going to buy another Kong, check out the black ones. They are supposed to be made for powerful chewers. Don't know if one would work or not, but you could try. Also, I have a fleecy tug rope. It's lasted alot longer than the regualr ropes that ended up in a messy heap of rope on the floor.

I was wondering how you were feeling. Sorry to hear you still have your cold. How are the pups doing now!

The other "tough" thing Charlie enjoys are the super-strong version (not the flexible type) of Nylabones. He can totally destroy the flexibles. They're supposed to be good to help clean their teeth too.

I'd caution you to be careful with the nylabones. I used to have every nylabone they make, but they are now banned. Pip broke his 4th premolar while chewing on one. I actually heard it break (YUCK!). It had to be extracted and there were complications getting it out. My previous corgi and had the same tooth (opposite side) cracked for many, many years before it eventually broke off. He too, was a nylabone chewer, but I can't say for sure that was how he cracked his tooth. My vet said Pip's teeth were very healthy and he must have caught the nylabone on it in just the right way to break it. Be careful with them.

The pups are feeling better and im on the mend..just taking it slow...want to kick it completely so it dosnt come back....its gonna be a rough week as the Dept. of Edu. is visiting the school, i begin another class for a new certification on Wednesday evenings, the Valentines Holiday on Thursday and Friday kicks off our winter break so the kids will be nuts im sure...

then Sat. is my moms b-day and next tuesday is mine...i get to go to the doc for my yearly physical on monday and the pups are at the vet on my bday for colbys annual and cammies last round of puppie shots and rabies...fun fun fun...but at least i will get to be home with them both all week and jamie may take some time off too..at least make a long weekend...

as for the nyla bones, i had the hard ones and colby was able to eat one of those when he was much younger, i didnt think that was supposed to happen so that was the end of nylabones in this house...i bought cammie a cute pink one but colb got a hold of it and it quickly was retrieved and thrown out...i assumed that plastic or whatever its made of was no good for either of them...

I make alot of my own using fleece or fake lambs wool. I can put a couple layers together and sew them very tight. With the fleece I cut strips then braid them together with different lengths and such. Right now the dogs have an old pair of yellow wellies outside. Yes rubber boots that don't fit the youngest any more. They love'em!

I would worry about tires as I have seen major issues with livestock and the tire feeders they use-some times the radial comes apart and ends up in stomachs.

Have you tried giving him raw bones to chew on? At this age, that might be enough to satisfy his chewing crazies.

I like to take the old shank bones and fill with peanut butter or the can cheese-get it deep in the bone so they really have to work at getting it out. Always finding ways to entertain the troups here.

I have actually found a few toys that he so far hasn't chewed through. The one is made of firehose material and has lasted near a month now. I've tried the hard balls and Kongs, but he just doesn't seem interested in chewing on them. The only time he likes his Kong is when I put nummies in it and it takes him about 30 minutes to get them out.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!

Gertie is also a big chewer, and we went through many toys before we found the right ones. She has not been able to chew up her black Kong. Also the Tuffies toys have extreme durability and are washable. They are rated on durability, and we usually buy toys with a rating of 8 or above. The last thing we have been successful with are the Zogoflex toys made by West Paw. The girls have Hucks, Hurleys, and the Zisc. All of them have held up to their rough chewing. WestPawDesign. com

My husband and I got our Corgi "Teething Keys". They are on a yellow ring, with 3 keys-one blue, one red, and one yellow. They are SUPER HARD plastic... and not even my bigger dogs have been able to destroy. We got them in the doggy toy section at Pet Co... They also have them at WalMart and there are different sizes for bigger and smaller dogs... they're great. Give them a try!

The best idea is to make your own toys. Get an old sock, tie it in a knot = great tug of war game!

Get an empty plastic bottle, cut the end off (put treats on it), hang it up (low for a corgi, not so they can damage their backs) and it makes a great doggy pinata!

I'm sure you'll find more on the internet.

Copper is pretty hard on his stuffed toys as well. He likes to trash them about shaking them until they "die". I then preform surgery depending on the severity of the trauma... LOL.

One of the local pet stores here sells stuffed toys that look like real rabbits and those are his favorite as are the Loofa dogs. The Rabbits will last a little while (3 or 4 months). We don't get the Loofa dogs very often, they just are durable enough. I don't like to pay $7-$8 for a toy that he is only going to play with twice before I have to pick up the stuffing. Usually there isn't any repairing them either. Their fur is just too thin.
