Why do Corgis chew on things?
Things such as a $1000 dining set, a $300 pair of shoes, a $3000 couch, a $250 purse.

1. Puppeis and juvenile Corgis learn about their environment by mouthing and gnawing on objects. Typically these objects can be shoes, books, bedposts etc. May be play-related or investigational. It is normal behaviour.

2. Some adult Corgis chew out of boredom or because they have been 'abandoned' by their owners each day. they may dig, search for personal items belonging to the owner/family.

3. Chew because of a nervous personality or some phobia - eg thunder, fireworks, wind, other noises.

4. Chew because it is FUN. So give your Corgi things to chew on.

They chew on those things because you leave them where they can get to them! My brother made a comment to me the other day that he replaced his glasses after Roscoe chewed on them - he has a habit of leaving his stuff on the floor or wherever. If I leave my $250 purse or my $300 shoes in Roscoe's wake (and there's so many places I can put that stuff where he can't get it), then it's my own fault.

I totally agree! Chewing on inappropriate items is the human's fault for not putting small items in closets/cabinets, and for giving the puppy too much unsupervised freedom before the pup has been trained what is ok and what is off limits.

.
(A corgi or any other entity would not find those expensive items in my house.) But I agree with others that you must put your things up to keep them safe from all accidental damage. One of my larger dogs chewed the front stair corners when he was a puppy. We didn't catch him doing it.

LOL...I was also thinking that Jane...I don't think that my 12-15 purses totalled $250 all together, and because I will always have pets, I will never have a terribly expensive sofa!

Since Copper was a puppy he has chewed up/on 5 or 6 sofas. He gets horribly upset if you leave him out of his kennel then leave the house.
