Bonnie,
You are going to be a pro by the time your Dale is out of puppyhood and will be able to write a book of your own ![]() Oh my, just read my post back in May; boy have I learned a lot since I have been on here in regards to the pant biting and really not being typical Corgi herding behavior - at least that is what others have said. I have never played tug-of-war with my rottweiler since at 6 months old he was already 60lbs and a lot stronger than me. I have also never allowed my son to roughhouse with Lord. My son was 6 when I got Lord and they would fight all the time as it is, just like real siblings. For example my son would be playing with his cars; Lord would steal one of the cars and not give it back to him on purpose. Then they would both come to me with my son complaining and Lord looking pleased with himself.
Lola on other hand has never shown any interest in tug-of-war, but she loves to play ball or have suffed toys thrown for her.

I agree with Fluffypants that playing Tug is great game- my dogs love it- and we play often-
My dogs are like the Border Collies Michael talked about- after working hard at agility or obedience they love to tug. The biggest thing is not so much that you win- if you have a healthy relationship with your corgi, letting them win a game of tug once in a while isn't going to make your dog think that he's the boss of the world. However- all the other points are great- especially with a puppy it is important that they learn that tugging on pants and biting aren't appropriate. -amanda

When Lola was about 2-3 months old she used to herd us, one time she bit my kid's father's ankle so hard that he limped for almost week.
Luckily that was the only incident of that nature. She seems to have learned that was an acceptable behavior pretty fast all by herself. I think that it had stopped completely by the time she 4 months old or so. When Lord was a baby he used to like to hunt everything: our guinea pig, our rabit, other dogs, rabbits outside and my son. He would flatten himself to the ground with his butt up and crawl towards the target, then when he was close enough for a lunge he would jump. He would not get too close to Sandy-the guinea pig since he didn't like Lord and would always bite him. Lord still kept trying to play with him though. When he played with Cindy-the dwarf rabbit he would jump within 2-3 inches of her, bark and then wait for her to start running so that he could chase her, catch her and lick her all over. Lord was very upset when Cindy died of old age, he kept going to look at where her cage used to be and wait for her to come back. When he used to hunt my son he would stalk him and then lunge and gently nip his butt. But I had to wean him off that game when he turned 5 months old or so since he was already 50 lbs. Sometimes Lord and Lola would play tug-of-war with each other, Lord would always restrain himself so that Lola can pull and have fun too.
