Every two blocks, my dog pees a bit...why?
This is the funniest thing and I don't think it's a behavorial issue but more of a why? My corgi puppy is 6 months old almost and not neutered yet. When we take him for a walk, he immediately goes potty first. Then, after 2 blocks, he stops to pee again! A tiny bit though. After another 2 blocks, he pees again. It's every block or two that he stops and pees just a tiny bit and we know he doesn't have to pee because he peed it all in one shot the first round.
Is he doing this to mark his scent so if he gets lost, he finds his way back? Someone told me that might be the reason or he just wants to completely remove all the urine from his bladder? Thanks for the help! |

sweetlychee,
My dog sometimes does that also. He will pee first thing when we go outside for a walk and then 2 blocks down there is an empty lot and he will pee just a wee bit. Further down on our walk, he will pick out another spot along the road and do the same thing - he doesn't always do this, but many times he does. Even in the morning, he will pee and then walk around a bit and do a little more in the back yard. linda |

His 'marking' is leaving his message for all the others dogs to read. And that is what all the sniffing is about on the walks too, sometimes tons of mail to read.
One of the many things that I find so cute about corgis, is that our guys will raise their short little back leg so high at times that it looks for sure like they will tip over! They need to get that urine mark way up high, so that all dogs after them will realize that the 'big guy' was here.

My Lady Bird does the same thing. Not always but most times. She does it whenever we walk by houses that I know have dogs. On our walking route their are 2 houses that have a dog and she does it there. She is very interested in smelling the yard and then peeing just a little bit. It is funny and I've always understood why she did it. She does it in Vadars yard whenever we walk by there. I know of course she is telling him she misses him.

AS Debbie said, Corgi males will try and answer mail and leave their own at most sites along a walk - if you let them.
I can take Taylor for a kilometre walk down to the village shopping centre, and after an initial burst of say three stops, he'll leave his calling card at around a dozen others - if I let him, which I usually do or mostly do. Otherwise if he is on the lead, I just say "no" or "heel " or "this way" or give the lead a little tug and skip all the mail deliveries. On the return journey, Taylor's stoppages are far less. As far as I'm concerned, all male Pembroke Corgis are the same. Pems are especially noted for wanting to wee after having gotten slightly excited or stressed. I believe every dog in the neighborhood pees in my front yard and I knew it was because of my dogs. Last year a dachsund puppy would always sit on the sidewalk and bark at my girls, much to the young owners dismay! I would just laugh and let the dogs 'talk' for a few minutes before they had to sit and be quiet.
