I highly recommend crate training. Gizmo was my first puppy that had his own crate. Actually his crate, is a big cage that I had for a litter of puppies. When we brought Gizmo home as a pup, I placed the cage in the living room, right where we spend lots of time. After he would get tired playing, I'd put him in his cage. His mother and litter were crate trained, so this was probably a comfort for him. I also put some blankets and stuffed toys for him to snuggle with. I have two other dogs, and I was also concerned about one of the bigger dogs hurting him as a pup, so we kept them separated. I only allowed supervised play time with the big dogs. After some time, I moved his cage in the same room with the big dogs. That way he felt secure still being with the pack. At that time he only spent nights (or times we were away) in his crate. After he outgrew his puppy chewing habits, we allowed him to roam the upstairs. I do keep him separated from my other two dogs, Gizmo picks fights with Sammy, who is twice his size, so I won't leave them together unsupervised. When it's time to go out and play in the yard, he gets to run and play with the other dogs. I have a secure fenced in backyard for their pleasure. This situation has worked out best for us, and having the cage is great when I need it.
That play yard thing is a great idea too, I've seen those used at dog shows.

And, a play Yard might be an idea.
Dylan in his Play Yard, he is on carpet as his surgery leg must be protected from a slip.

*~* YES...I did bring in a stool sample for BOTH dogs. Kinda gross...but, because I have two puppies...I had to watch to see where each one "went"...then, I had to put "it" into seperate paper cups with their name on it.

Changing the subject...CorgiMum, I am going to purchase a play yard very similiar to the one you have shown ! I want one that big...or larger !

** I have tile in my kitchen ** They should be okay on tile...right ?
I know that my girls have, "Super Puppy Powers"...But, to chew through tile would be un~imaginable !! Right ??

No.

Someone mentioned buying a cheaper piece of lino to put under it, that is an idea, or maybe an inexpensive carpet for them.

Also, as Dylan must stay so confined during his recovery, I also place his kennel in the play yard part of the day, he loves it. Even when the doors to the kitchen/familyroom are closed and he is allowed to walk about, when he gets tired, he walks back to the enclose to lay down.

I ditto the crate training... Much safer for the girls as well as your carpet. LOL
Bless your heart, I had the same thing happen about 10 yrs ago when I kept my moms dashhound, she only weighs maybe 10 lbs but she pulled up the entire bathroom carpet and padding and chewed the bottom of the door.

I was in disbelief when I came home, my mouth was dragging the floor.

GOOD DEAL for me !

** Although I prefer carpet in the bedroom...I will take an offer like that anyday ! **

Re~sale of my home...with hardwood flooring in the Master Bedroom...might have a few potential buyers questioning my decision...but, I do not plan to sell this home for a very long time.

I actually have that wood laminate floor in my bedroom and I absolutely LOVVE it. I didn;t think I would but I do. You may be surprised. Your friends work like mine. A few pizza'a or hamburgers and some beer and I can have just about anything done!

My husband bought me a new bed for Christmas and it now has Chip's teeth marks all along the footboard. I draped a blanket over it. That was one night's damage and he hasn't done it since. The blanket doesn't look half bad.

Just wait until you have to get a urine sample!

Jessica,

I remember having to get a urine sample from my last female, - I used a flat cover from a cool whip container and slipped it under her when she was going and then had to carefully transfer it into a container. Anything bigger than
that and she would stop what she was doing.
