Exclamation *~* I am embarrassed to admit this...so go easy on me ! - 07-10-2006, 09:56 PM

*~* Midnight & Sunshine ATE my carpet in my bedroom !

YES...you read that correctly !

There is a small hole in my carpet in my Master Bedrrom at the foot of my bed. We left them alone in my room (like I always do) and when we came into my room to let them out.....we saw the DESTRUCTION !

I did laugh...at first !
I mean...they ate my carpet !

Now, I am NOT a strict mom. I HATE to spank or yell ! So, as I am semi laughing...I proceeded to disipline BOTH of my girls (because I honestly have NO IDEA if one or BOTH of them had a hand...or paw...or mouth...in this BAD BEHAVIOR) !! This is what I did: I raised my voice as I had BOTH of them near the hole. I had my son & daughter help me hold them still. I said,
"NO BITE !! That (I pointed to the hole) is a NOOOO ! NO BITE !! " Then, I grabbed Midnight's mouth and said again, "NO Bite" and I pointed to the hole again. Next, I grabbed Sunshine's mouth and said again, "NO bite" and I pointed to the hole...once again.

We put BOTH puppies outside in the backyard and left them there for a VERY LONG TIME !

When we finally let them in...we took them immediately to the hole and I said softer this time, "NO BITE !!" and I made a very sad face and sunk my head down showing sadness & dissappointment ! I was very dramatic ! Ya should have seen me...~~~giggle..giggle~~~ !

I am hoping that this works !

** I also hope that I can find a realitively CHEAP carpet repair guy !! **

Puppies....AWWWWWWWWWWW how cute & destructive they can be !

( I was honestly laughing.....when I saw all of the carpet remnents ! It was kinda funny...and also...NOT !!! )

Oh,

that does not sound good - 2 girls doing lots of mischief!

Now you know to only leave those girls alone in an area without carpet - now
that they have done it once, they may do it again. I wonder whose idea it was??

*~* I wish I had a Pet~Cam !! I too...wonder who instigated the destruction of my carpet.

** I spoil my girls !! Most of my neoghbors leave their dogs OUTSIDE when they are at work or run errands (I asked them). I just think that the humidity is so strong here...and it has also been raining lately.

I will just have to buy a baby play~pen cage for my girls...and maybe leave them in my kitchen. I have tile in my kitchen.

I never bought a crate for my girls. I have always wanted them to have freedom.

Obviously...they had WAY TOO MUCH FREEDOM in my Master Bedroom !

>>>SHEESH<<< !!!

Scolding after the fact does no good - they have no idea what you were telling them "no bite" about or why you put them in the backyard. While a momentary chuckle is okay, there is also the concern that the carpet fibers and/or padding could cause blockages which could require surgery. Freedom is fine, but not the most responsible of management choices. I'm glad to hear you are planning to make better confinement arrangements in your kitchen which will be a lot safer for them. One doesn't leave year old toddlers at home alone to roam around.

Crates are not bad, dogs are denning creatures by nature and it provides a safe spot for them to just get away from things. Just as your children probably needed alone time in their rooms, dogs need the same thing and a crate provides that.

*~* I never thought that they would chew my carpet.

I made sure that all of the cords were un~plugged and that my drapes were removed from my window. I thought that my Master bedrrom was a big enough space for them to both share.

Well..I live & learn.

No more carpet access for my girls !

{ I still DO NOT want to leave them outside all day while I am at work. I do not have an awning or adequate enough shade for them. There is no place to keep a water bowl....no shade or shelter to keep water cool. I do have a Corgi Condo (a doghouse)...but, I want to keep them inside. }

I feel that confining them in the kitchen...will be the best solution.

Confined to the kitchen is a good solution. Be sure to puppy proof your cabinets so they can't get into anything dangerous there as well. I have known some corgis able to open cabinets. Leaving them outside all day is not an option I would be comfortable with either. Someone could open the gate and let them out or they could be stolen.

When Tinker was a young puppy, we lived in government housing (again we are military) and ate a section of the black rubber base boards. I was at work, hubby was asleep on the couch. I think Shawn was in more trouble then Tinker was. So I understand the not knowng part of it all.

I was at first very reluctant with crates at first but now all my dogs were trained in them. Tinker and Belle are never in theirs anymore unless I have workers here and have no section to lock them in. I can't put them in a room with a door shut because Belle will try to open the door, which she can sometimes accomplish, and scratches it all to bits.

yeah sorry it is early. I guess I went on a bit. I sympathize with you Nikki!

Taylor chewed at the edge of one of my carpet rugs in a couple of places when he was a real little pup and I took the carpet rug to a repairer and it was fixed as good as gold and cost me relatively little. And Taylor never has chewed anything that he is not suppose to ever since. If he had chewed through my wall-to-wall carpet, I would have claimed insurance and had it fixed or replaced. I have kept a lot of spare carpet pieces just in case there's some form of damage. So I have entrusted Taylor with the carpet and furniture and he is not likely to let me down. Perhaps you can give your Corgis a second chance if other alternative measures are inconvenient or not really desirable. If you do this, don't get the carpet repaired for awhile just in case more damage is made. Then a repairer or carpet replacer can do both jobs at the one time.

I am pretty sure, not positive, that Nikki is in the US so again the difference in the insurance here and in NZ.

But I would agree to maybe put a rug over the area rather than repairing now for more damage later!

*~* I have some guy friends who offered to install wood flooring for me !
All I have to do...is supply food & BEER for them.

GOOD DEAL for me !

** Although I prefer carpet in the bedroom...I will take an offer like that anyday ! **

Re~sale of my home...with hardwood flooring in the Master Bedroom...might have a few potential buyers questioning my decision...but, I do not plan to sell this home for a very long time.

*~* Like I mentioned before...I was embarrassed to admit this !

BTW---I have a pretty good relationship with my Vet & she told me to bring my girls in (going today...this afternoon) to get checked out.

NO COST...
( It will not be a complete exam....just a quick check )

Hey, I appreciate the freebies...I want to make sure that my girls are okay. I do not think they swallowed any of the padding or carpet (I hope not).....I think that they just went to town on the CHEWING of it !

But, better to know for SURE...then to just assume !

A Play Yard might be an idea to consider.
