Herding

I realize that Corgi's are herders by breed and nature, but is there a way to deter them from trying to herd people? Sassy tends to try and herd people when they come and visit by nipping at their feet (she does not bite) just makes the jesture at their feet. She does it to my feet when there is something she is wanting and I am heading in a different direction. I think it is a game with her but was unsure if I should try and break this behavior? No one seems to mind it. They just stop and pet her and move on.

Cody still does this with some of my sons friends - he does this to some people and not others; not sure why I tell him the "leave it" command and sometimes have to put him in a sit position until the kids get to where they are going in the house. I am not sure, but I think this is a hard thing to break since they are bred to do this and our pups are still young yet.

Your can deter the herding by (gently) moving into the dog's space to back him up. The same way that the dog moves the sheep.

The dog is attempting to control people in the same way that he controls the sheep. People of course should be control of the dog.

I know I have used that on Cody when he attempts to enter the laundry room to consume the fragments of food left in the cat bowls and then get the
idea that he wants to see what is in the litter box

Tucker was never one to nip at ankles or feet. He does do the nudge to the back of the calf though.

Lulu has started grabbing my pant leg. It turned cooler at the end of the week so crop pants are back out. The bottom is her eye level so she has been grabbing me by the pant leg and trying to pull me. Where to, I'm not sure.

She gently gets turned away regardless of how endearing (or NOT!) it is!
