i read the time out section and i dont like to put her in her crate for time out because i read somewhere where their crate is suppost to be a place for them to be comfertable in and safe, like a den.I dont want her to come to where she doesnt like her crate. Ive seen people use rolled up new papers many many times and even my dad recomended me using one. I know everyone has different oppinons on things but spanking our cat didnt harm our bond. She has a good bond with all of us in the household, she doesnt cower down or run away from us.

Here is another link to this thread I like Cindy, suggest that your family all take part, soon, in puppy classes with Lexy to learn what appropriate training really is all about. I have 3 cats and spanking a cat does not teach them to behave. And if you put your name in NOW,with PetsMart or Petco on a waiting list for a puppy class, they will gladly call you. That way, you won't have to keep your fingers crossed, they will fit you right into one of their classes that fit your schedule. Last edited by corgimom; 09-03-2006 at 12:44 PM. |

Im sure all you (well most of yall) here have your own homes and cant let them stratch, chew up anything, well here we cant because we do not own our place. People beside us had 2 chuchuahas (i can never spell that), and they left them un surpervised and they stratched up the doors, ruined the carpet and such and he made them pay $1000 dollars for the damage. So we do not want that to happen to us. An as I said in many other posts, I am going to try to take her to puppy classes, Im just hoping they have avalible spots open when we go. edit - I didnt know you could have your name put on a list. Thanks for telling me that linda! Last edited by bubblegumbarbe79; 09-03-2006 at 12:53 PM. |

Many of us own our own homes, that doesn't mean that we allow our dogs to do destructive things to them...you have been offered advice on here.
If you call PetsMart now or Petco and discuss Lexy with them, they will gladly inform you of their upcoming classes and put you on a list now. This way, you won't have to worry about them "not having available spots for you" After talking with your vet, if he seems to feel that she is still too young to go, you can always cancel the class. If your vet feels that Lexy is too young to attend class, then purchase a good puppy training book and spend lots of time reading it and practicing what you read. You should have lots of time, since you said you are neither in school or working. |

You seem to be quite knowledgable about puppy's because you have read about tipping them on their back when they growl and also not using a crate for discipline so it is hard to believe that you haven't read somewhere that you should never hit or "softly spank" a puppy, especially the corgi breed. Maybe a corgi pup isn't right for you and you should have gotten a different breed. You have had 2 and neither one seem to have worked out for you. Everyone else on this forum agrees that you should never hit a puppy but you seem to be stuck on this issue. You do not take our advice and I am not sure what answer you are looking for.

My parents are the ones that told me to spank her an I listened to them. Im not looking for an answer on discipline. I started this thread because of her growling issues and they are almost gone. I love the corgi breed and I dont care much for the others. I had to get something small. People have suggested jack russells, which i dont really care for them and suggested poodles an I dont like them and they seem like for more spiffy- uppity uppity people. Chuchuahas (sp?) and breeds its size are too small an Id be afraid that Id step on them. Corgis just stand out to me. Everyone has different oppinons on different things and beliefs. And my parents believe in spanking and thats all. Im sorry to whom doesnt like it but thats what we believe in in our household. |

KIMBERLY- you have listed your poor little pup, Lexy on Dogster as ANXIOUS, NOT PLAYFUL, AGGRESSIVE, SLEEPY, SILLY. But who is the silly one?
Spanking_ which is hitting - or using objects such as a rolled up newspaper or a stick on dogs to correct them is just another form of torturing a dog. It is straight out abuse no matter how muted the hitting is - largely because a dog - who is not a human - can't take it mentally. Ask any recommended canine behaviourist or animal behaviourist. You have called your thread "Is this normal puppy behaviour" I ask - are you a normal owner of a beautiful and innocent Corgi pup. And the answer must be no. How do you think Lexy has become angry - because you have shown her the way. All Corgi pups require a great amount of patience and effort and understanding and TLC. All you are achieving is a permanently adversely affected pup who will go the way of being aggressive, angry etc or tip the other - cowering, timidity etc. Dogs store these moments of angry respones from people and it causes them great stress, sometimes for the rest of their lives. Harsh words, let alone smacking and kicking, and even harshly picking up a dog and out of control jerking of a leash, can result in a lifetime of anguish for the pup/dog. And puppies are much more vunerable. The perfect balance requires a complete revision on your part of your actions and begs the question, are you worthy to be the guardian of a Corgi puppy/dog or any dog. I suggest you get rid of your page on Dogster - it is insulting to Corgi lovers and is a terrible advertisement for a breed of dog that the majority of Go Corgi members and Corgi owners who have their dogs listed on Dogster, have an enormous affection for. I started this thread to ask if that growling was normal or not since our previous one didnt do that. You dont have to be so freaking rude. I am a normal person who loves animals and has had them all throught out my life. Just because your a moderator doesnt mean you have to be so rude to people here who wasnt rude to you in the first place. An I do not have to get rid of my dogster page just because you said so. Im keeping it there so people can see her and to show her off. Everyone in our house loves her and thinks she cute. We just have a different way of using discipline an im sorry that you dont like it. She doesnt cower down or run away. She comes to everyone that she sees. You just use your way and we will use ours. We raised a beautiful and perfect cat with her way of handling animals an I couldnt of asked for a better one. Last edited by bubblegumbarbe79; 09-03-2006 at 10:20 PM. |

Kimberly - someone played a trick on me - when I first clicked onto your Dogster page, instead of the traits chart, I got oneliners which said Lexy was anxious, not playful, aggressive, sleepy and silly.
My apologies - I could hardly believe what I was reading. Must take it up with the Dogster people. The rest of my post, I stand by. I go to agility, and anyone who admonishes or otherwise treat their dog harshly for a perceived error while on the course - either in training or in competition, is shunned. And it is against the rules. I have never seen anyone hit their dog at these agility meetings, and hope never to see it. Hitting dogs to any extent has long been outmoded and abandoned as better understanding of dogs and their psyche emerged. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 09-04-2006 at 05:12 AM. |

glencorgi- We dont spank her with a sharp blow, never ever, not even a person. Its a light tap on her butt to be more specific and telling her not to do it. She's getting better at minding too. What all do they do when you go to puppy classes anyways? |
