We just have a different way of using discipline an im sorry that you dont like it. She doesnt cower down or run away. She comes to everyone that she sees. You just use your way and we will use ours. We raised a beautiful and perfect cat with her way of handling animals an I couldnt of asked for a better one.
Michael - that was an excellent post and I stand behind your comments 100 percent as I am sure that other go corgi members do as well. Thank you. Barbie: I do believe we are not going to change your mind about "lightly spanking" your corgi. You asked if this was normal behavior and we answered you to help you. You told us the correction you were using to change this behavior and we told you this was not an acceptable correction method. This site is full of very experienced corgi people who have had corgis for many years. One person is very involved in corgi rescue and she sees corgis that have been lightly spanked for years and she has to help them get through this. You stated yourself that you are only 17. When you ask a question or give out information, sometimes you will not like the answers but since you asked you will get them anyway. It is to bad that you will not take the advice of so many very experienced corgi owners who are only trying to help you all for the love of the breed. Your immaturity shows up especially when you compare a corgi puppy to a cat. (nothing against cats) but there is simply no comparison. PLEASE either take our advice or end this thread as it is going nowhere and is upsetting to people who truly love their corgis.

I was born in the forties, I do not believe in hitting puppies, dogs or cats. There is no excuce for hitting your puppy. As Michael and all the other members that have posted in this thread have said, we as members of Go Corgi do not believe in hitting our dogs. I personally find you bragging about it extremely offensive.*****

Some canine behaviourists say that you should also never 'pat' a dog. Patting a dog should instead be stroking a dog. A pat can be like hitting.
When I play rough with my Corgis they know full well that it is only play in shoving, pushing, grabbing hitting, banging etc. So its all part of a game. But even then there are line drawn on how far to go. And Corgis - unlike some breeds - are intelligent enough to realise the difference between getting spanked and shouted at for a moment of some kind of misdemeanor and a fun wrestling session where both parties are laughing and having a good time. But the message is loud and clear - when it's for real - lay off. Kimberly - the agility thing is just an example of the way people are meant to treat their dogs. It is not tolerated in agility circles to hit or abuse dogs physically or verbally, or in obedience training/competition or at conformation shows etc, etc. Going by your attitude, if your dog was at the height of her career in agility, going for winning a major championship, and she stuffed it up. And this is what you get for spending thousands of dollars, so much devotion to training, time and effort every day for years, preparing for her the best food available and she makes an error in front of all those people and the television cameras. she should never had done the wrong thing. No way. Well .......SLAM! Kimberly, the repercussions from that kind of action would be bad for you. So just remember this little story the next time Lexy makes a mistake or gives you cheek.
