That blocking method is what i used with Dillon to let him know that 1) the cat food is not for him and 2) misty is not his cat to chase. I also used the cesar millan method for making your dog sit while you go to the door and open it, whether some one is at the door or you are getting ready to go for a walk- i always exit first and enter first as i am alpha. It really works . the other day i tried to send dillon in the house before me so i could go on my own to talk to the neighbor, he didnt want to go in the house before me. i had to go in and then leave without him...he learned quickly. ( now if only I could have remembered my own rules in this case ! LOL!!!)

I love having people to chat with who watch Cesar as much as I do...Most people just look at me and say, "how come you know this?" When I say, "the dog whisperer" they look at me like What? I have done the exit and enter thing with Ponzo and it works really well. I don' t care what that red sign in the beginning of the show says about the methods that he uses aren't for all dogs, blah, blah...If Cesar is doing it, so am I. Although, I don't think I'd have followed him into the backyard of that white german shepard, Shep. That was almost too tense for me to watch! Yikes! Anyway, thanks for sharing the stories~Amanda
PS-Way to go Susan (from way back on the third page!)

I do the block method with Cody also in regards to the cat food - I lay their dishes down in the laundry room when it is time for them to eat, and he tries to go in there . So I stand in his way and make him back up and tell him to stay - then he lays down in the hallway and just peeks in.

I stopped enforcing the wait at the door, I go first when I got Lulu. Doing it w/ 2 dogs just seems harder. I need to recommit to finding a way to make it work w/ 2. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Lulu is almost 6 months and the terrible teens is starting to show. When we leave the house because I need to get them in the car and go somewhere, I used to be able to open the door and she would follow me to the car. Not anymore! I end up chasing her around the yard.

So now she leaves the house for the car either on leash or in my arms.

Chip did that a couple of times when he was little and when I caught him, I put him back in the house and told him that he must not have really wanted to go by by so he could stay to home. Now if I let him walk to the car, he goes to the car but most of the time, he is on leash or I carry him. It isn't worth the worry of him getting hurt.
