Talking thin Em - 12-01-2006, 06:35 AM

Hi Guys,

But my happy news is our little Jenny Craig success story. Emma has been on her diet for two weeks and is looking very good 1/3 cup Purina Salmon Sensitive Tummy twice a day with her usual TBL of pumpkin. Occasional healthy snack and more exercise. Am happy to report she now has a waist line and is almost back to her school-girl figure.

so without further Adu - Thin Em ... ta da ...

Congratulations to a trimmer Emma! I can already see that Chloe is going to need to have restricted treats and more walks - we ALL become slugs as winter sets in! I will keep Emma's success in mind when it would be easier to cave in to Chloe's pleas for treats or the lure of the couch on a blustery evening!!

Supermodel Em!!!! She looks beautiful. I need to work on Miss Gambler, when we were out a few days ago, I had a gentleman start asking questions about Miss Gamberl and the Corgi breed, and he asked me if she wasn't a bit overweight(a man should know better than to bring this up about a lady, but he was nice, so I didn't slap him, wanted to, but didn't) I explained that the breed is long and tubular and that I've seen Corgis a lot larger than her, but ever since I've been looking at her and wondering if I need to exercise her more.

PS Are we really supposed to see their ribs? I don't think that I've ever seen Miss Gambler's.

No, not SEE . . . FEEL. You should be able to FEEL her ribs. If you see them she is too skinny (a corgi's worst nightmare! ).

Way to go Emma - will we be seeing you on TV with Kirstie Alley anytime soon? (for those not in the US - Kirstie Alley is an actress that went from thin to F-A-T, and is now thin again and doing commercials for Jennie Craig - a weight loss company)

Yea for Emma! GODD JOB!

MGM, just hope you don't run into me if Miss Gambler is umm, shall we say carrying extra pounds. IF I notice it when talking to someone, I'm not above mentioning it, although I do try to be gentle about it (usually). Having seen the extreme and the health issues that can come with being over weight. As Jessica said, you want to be able to feel the ribs, not see them or count them. You should feel about the equivalent of a "Kraft's single" of "meat" over them.

A slight correction, corgis shouldn't be described as tubular (although some do have more of that shape), but rather egg-shaped. Bigger in the front/chest area and tapering into the narrower behind/bum.

Glencorgi: Miss Gambler does not have the shape that you describe, bigger in chest, smaller in back, she is tubular, perfectly tubular even. As for feeling her ribs, that's not too easy either, there's a lot of her between the skin and ribs. I don't have any other corgis to compare her with, so I guess she is overweight, but she was just at the vet for a physical(twice a year) and he didn't say a word, which shocked my husband. But our vet is also not familiar with Corgis. It's not like I ignore it, I actually measure her food, and in the past year have cut back on snacks and people food(she still gets it, but a lot less). I don't mind being corrected at all, especially by you, and your description on how she looks really helps, but I just know that she doesn't fit that description. Note: last night Miss Gambler and I spent 45 mins side by side on the hotel's treadmill, and this is on top of her walks, etc.... so I don't ignore her. Are there any doggie exercises that would help give her this defined look?

Congrats to Em on her trim figure! I get the feeling Corgis gaining wait is a pretty common problem. My vet ordered that Milo be put on a diet and he did lose weight and has a waist line again! I think the rule is you should be able to feel their ribs but not be able to count them! I did put him a Nutro diet doggie chow.
He gets more carrots, apples and some yogurt than dog treats. I also make frozen treats by freezing low fat low sodium chicken broth in an ice cube tray....Milo LOVES them! Other than that, we just took longer walks...so it's just like people should do: eat less and move more!! Em is very cute by the way.

Way to go, Em! Slim 'n trim.

As for Andy, I have no worries - she is definitely a lightweight. Rhys has been getting heftier, but I have been watching. Like MGM says about her girl, my boy is tubular - hee - but I can feel his ribs without a problem. And he does still have his "tuck" when viewed from the side.

To be on the safe side, however, I am paring back the treats.
