Well, Wendy-boo has been with us for about two months and it finally happened... HER FIRST FRAP!
She has been getting a bit more comfortable all the time, a bit more playful. We have been practicing having fun a bit every night and she finally burst into an uncontrollable run! Around the dining room table... around the coffee table in the family room... around the coffee table in the living room... to the kitchen (no...too slippery!) and a quick 360 back to the dining room. Of course then she had to lie down and catch her breath because she is still out of shape.
It was such a proud moment for me!

The other day I went to take her for a walk and she wasn't exactly in a Presidential Fitness mood - kept trying to divert to the grass but never went potty. Eventually I gave her leash a bit of a tug to get her going and her head slipped right out of it (perhaps the only benefit of having no neck whatsoever). She took off running as fast as her little legs would carry her and she didn't stop .... until she got home. Of course the side story is that I couldn't catch her and am mortified at the reality that I've been outrun by an overweight dog with 4-inch legs.

Anyway, I think it's official... Wendy has adopted us!

Do I understand she ran towards home? I can picture her giving you the look of "what took you so long?" Their speed is amazing. I only could catch mine when she turned 11.

Yes, we were about 15 houses away and she ran back home! Never met a dog who did THAT before!
She hasn't learned to sit yet, but it sure didn't take long for her to know which house belongs to her!

Reading back all your posts on Wendy. How far you have come in a short time.
Is the incontinance getting better? Has she lost more pounds?
The frapping is really good news. My Duchess has only "frapped" once that I knew of. We go to the park with all sizes of dogs. I am hoping if she gets with another corgi she may be more playful. More a one on one situation than the other corgi she has met at the park.

what wonderful news...and yes, it is amazing to see how fast these little dogs can run...even when overweight or elderly! Frapping is so much fun to watch and i just cant stop giggling when mine do it. I really am glad to hear that she is feeling so comfortable in her new home and doing so well.

That frapping is great to watch. I hope Wendy keeps it up! I'm glad that she's starting to feel more comfortable at home with you. I can just see her running home. That is too funny!

Yes, I'm very excited about it. To answer your questions Jane, she has come a long way in a short time. As of our last vet's visit she had lost 4 lbs (down to 36), but maybe by now it is five.

The incontinence got better on her first three days of estrogen but then went back to 'normal'. (The estrogen was to be one a day for three days, then drop back to 1 or 2 per week). Unfortunately, she has figured out how to get out of her tinkle trousers so she stays in the kitchen when we're not home. It is a large kitchen so I don't feel too guilty, but I know she would prefer to have the run of the house even when we're away.

On health issues, the vet is stumped by the persistent bladder infection. She has had 2 cystocenteses to allow for culture & sensitivity tests, and both times nothing grew. The x-rays did not show any stones and the ultrasound did not show a dilated or ectopic ureter. The blood work is all normal, yet after trying 4 antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, the urinalysis gets worse every time we go in - lots of blood (becoming visible). He is referring us to the University of Florida for a contrast study. Unfortunately this is all very pricey - I estimate she is at about $50/day that we have owned her - eek! Hopefully we will get it resolved and then she can become a normal affordable and healthy dog soon. Otherwise I'm not sure what would come next - does Johns Hopkins have a corgi wing?

In spite of the fact that her urinary health is going in the toilet (ha ha), she gets spunkier each day and seems to be bonding with us.

The extra benefit is this - my 6-year old daughter could NOT sleep by herself. She would end up in my bed sometime in the night every single night, then ruin my sleep by kicking, elbowing and commandeering the entire bed for herself. Since we got the dog, my daughter has not climbed in my bed once! She sleeps in her sleeping bag in her room with Wendy on the cushion right next to her - EVERY NIGHT!! When I go to check on them, they are usually sharing the pillow. Aw, so cute!

what a great success story Wendy has become because of you! She is such a pretty girl, glad to hear she is frapping and feeling happy at home. She looks so much like my Em

How sweet is that your Daughter and Wendy are such good buddies and sleep together every night. Nothing like a little girl and her puppy!

Wendy's first frap! How exciting! Is there anything more corgi than a good frap? I think not. So sorry that her urinary problems continue, though. Jackie & I will keep our paws crossed for you.

The image of your daughter and Wendy sleeping together is just too cute - you must take a picture of it!!!!! PLEEEEEEEEASE???

She knows your home is where she feels safe and comfortable there. Two months is not long at all, you have done great with her.

Your daughter and Wendy will be running around your yard in no time. Eventually, she'll be more comfortable on walks, or she'll insist on going for a run! I can see her slimmed down by summer, saying "who has the slim figure now".

She will still stop frapping for a rest even when she is in shape. We never could catch ours in the full speed frapping unless we played hide and seek and she would slow to find us crouched down behind the couch or behind a door. Warn your daughter that she will no longer be able to play hide and seek with her friends in the house because Wendy will always be the one to find everyone. They are so smart they don't allow someone else to do the seeking on their own.

OK, I am learning so much from this website. The other day I learned that when Gromit loses a whole dog of hair its called "blowing his coat". Today I learned that all those times I thought Gromit was possessed he was actually "frapping". Cool!
