You know a good breeder will often either guide you in your choice of puppy or pick one for you. I don't let people come in and choose from the whole litter. They might get to choose from two puppies or decide on the puppy I have available for a pet home.

If you have a breeder that lets you choose from the whole litter then IMO, their reputation is questionable. Why did they breed the litter? I breed for myself first and I get to choose which puppy or puppies I am keeping. Puppies that I decide are not show prospects are offered to pet homes. And I tell people exactly why I don't think they are show prospects.

I have another question, has this breeder met your parents or will be meeting your parents? If they're not requesting that, again a red flag. I want to meet every person who will live in the house the puppy is going to. In fact I require that before placing a puppy.

Sorry, I really get excited. I am just having a hard time deciding. I will post, when I actually know my puppy. In the mean time I won't talk about it. I may ask questions. I am really hoping to get a puppy from Lori, because I really look up to her and know that the puppy would be taken care of before I brought it him. Plus, the breeder who had puppies kind of scares me, because I asked her if she interviews people before giving them a puppy and she said if they are pay 600 dollars for a dog then that is good enough for me. I just read an article about responsible breeding and it struck me as not being so responsible. If it were me, which some day it may be. I would make sure I followed every single guide line.

Oh and yes the breeder, who I get the puppy from will be meeting my parents. I won't be living with them for more then 14 more months. I am moving to Rochester in July. I am just getting the puppy this year so I wouldn't have trouble potty training it in the apartment. I am thinking want to take Lucy with me. I want to make sure she is still taken care of.

Thank you for the info. I think I have decided that I will be getting a puppy from Yvette, Lori, or Sharon. I know they are responsible and this breeder does seem questionable. Plus I read that breeders do not prefer to ship their puppies and she does. She also has like 6 other dog she breeds and hasn't show me any tests or bloodlines. She has only given me the name of the mother. I hope that I am able to do better this time. I don't want what happened the first time I got a dog to happen again. Lucy came to us and we thought she was going to die the first month we had her. I am so angry with my aunt. She should have known how to take care of her. I am just trying to make sure I do it right so it doesn't happen to me again.

You are moving to Rochester with your family this July and then into your own apartment next year? Do you still have plans to go to college? It's not always that easy to find an apartment that takes dogs, much less 2 of them - so who would take care of your new dog if you can't find an affordable place(that allows dogs) while going to college.

This is the breeder who just wants the money, no questions asked? If so then yes, I agree, she sure sounds less than reputable. IMO.

Linda has some very good points. Many places will only allow one dog if any. And espeically places that will rent to college students. I think you should take Lucy with you and then IF you can find a place that will allow two dogs get another. Also, your school schedule might not work well for a puppy. Maybe an adult dog would be a better choice.

Just some things to think about.

I am going to Rochester next year by myself. Yeah I just decided to go for vet tech and business. I want to own my own pet sitting business. I love babysitting animals for people. Plus, I figure if I am a vet tech it will be a good thing, because if there is something wrong with the animal then I will be able to contact the owner and bring it into the vet for them so the pet would be ok. I mean what if you left you pet at home and something serious happens. I think with my plans I would have a great business.

I am not moving if I cannot bring my dog with me. I am gonna try and save 7000 dollars so rent would almosst be taken care of for the full year.

So when you said you are moving to Rochester in July - you meant July of 2008?

If I were you," Before" you decide to get a Corgi pup, I would do some planning and investigating to see what is available in Rochester as far as rentals and if they take pets - You said you would like to also take Lucy. Well, then you would have two dogs to worry about. See how many places would take two pets or even one.

You don't want to be in a situation where you might have to leave both dogs with your mom to tend to if you can't find a place. And just make sure that you will have the time with school to be able to care for 2 dogs; one being a senior dog and then your soon to be Corgi, which will still be quite young; - that's a lot to handle time wise and money wise for a young woman in school.

Just saw your post. Better to plan ahead now BEFORE getting the new pup; check out places to see what is available and willing to take pets.

Yeah I think I am gonna go with either Lori, Yvette, or Sherri. I am thinking I would like to go to Sherri the most, because she is only aix hours round trip. Plus she seem highly reputable. I have her website. i found her in the back of Dogs USA. I am planning to visit her in April, if eveything works out as planned.

I found about three places, I have been looking at them to see what the average rate is for a 1 bedroom or Studio. It is about 400 to 600 plus 20 to 50 dollars for the pets. Also needs a 200 dollar deposit for dog and about 200 more to keep an apartment. I have alot of saving to do, but I am pretty sure that I will be able to get enough money for the apartment.

There are only to state tech colleges and I do not want to go to a private, because what a friend told me happened to her. I also firgured it would be more then 5 hours out of the day for school. I also won't leave the pets alone. I will bring to a sitter. I don't like the idea of a dog alone a home. To much trouble to get in if you ask me. So no matter what my dogs will not be left alone.
