I plan to have a job. I will be putting away emergency money, for the dogs incase something happens. I promise you guys, I have everything figured out. I know that it is a big responsibility and I know that I can definetly do this, plus I was thinking about taking some summer courses, so I can graduate early and take up vet tech. I am not going to rush. I have till September to get things together. Dillydoodle, please do worry I am gonna take excelent care of my babies. I mean there may be some bugs, but I have sometime to work those out. If July moving out doesn't sound so good, I won't be moving out then. I talked my plan over with alot of family and they think that my plans are really well though out. |

I think it's okay to be on more than one waiting list as long as you are up front about what you are doing. I am more concerned that the right owner get the right the dog than making sure I made the sale. It isn't fair to be on the waiting list and then back out though. When I was sure my prospective owner was comfortable with me and me with them, I did ask for a non-refundable deposit to make sure they weren't just "shopping" me.
Good luck with a new puppy. How are things with your older dog? And your mom? |

Just to give you an idea of what it may cost. Doggy day cares where I live charge $10-$12/day for anything up to 5 hours -anything after that, it is an automatic $20. This is for one dog. So if I were to put my dog in doggy day care 5 days a week for over 5 hours a day, it would cost me $400 a month to do that; now add on another dog(Lucy) and double your cost, unless they give a break for multiple dogs; So just an idea of what this could cost you each month. I am not familiar with puppy sitters and what they charge, but they may charge more because they aren't able to accomodate as many dog customers as a day care. |

Also, IMO, if you're not going to work as a vet tech, then don't take the training. As you'll be taking the place from someone who intends to work in the field. The best way to keep up on treatments, ect. is to be actively working in the field. Peggy

This is also why most reputable breeders don't let you come in and choose from the whole litter. They've spent several weeks with their puppies and know their temperments and personalities. And they can better match the right one to the new potential home. Quote:

My two go to day care 2 days a week and it isn't cheap!
Rent, tuition, day care for pets, vet care, food for pets, + your living expenses. There are very few 18 year olds w/o trust funds that could handle this.

I don't have to pay for tuition until I graduate. Food is only like 50 dollars a bag. I am not quite sure about day care though. Maybe I could find a walker instead, it might be a little creaper. Also I wanted to get have pet insurance for Lucy and will be putting the puppy on a plan also. I plan to have atleast 5000 dollars before I leave for Rochester. I mean depending on how my day goes. I might just get a 2 bedroom and when I am gone leave them in the bedroom together and make sure they have lots of stuff to keep them busy. Like I said I still have to work out some bugs. Don't worry its gonna be fine. I don't have to pay for phone either. I am getting a laptop for graduation. Plus I am hoping I can get a few scholarships, not to mentions the one I'm already getting from Upward Bound. I am hoping to work enough hours to make due with food, vet, bills, gas, and rent.

Just so you know, Pet insurance doesn't cover a lot of things, and it may be hard to get coverage on a "senior dog". |
