Duchess's ninth birthday - 07-26-2007, 05:09 PM

Michael, Duchess ate a big piece of her birthday cake that I baked with your recipe. I took a taste myself and didn't find it sweet enough. So the rest is a piece Duchess can have later and some in the freezer. She also got a couple of pieces of frankfurt.
The weather here is in the ninties. A sudden change from last weeks cool temps and rain. Jane

Got myself a happy, talking, walking, sleeping, walking living doll.
Got to please Duchess because in truth it's good for my soul.
That is why I'm so satisfied that at nine,
She's having such a fine time.
A talking, walking, sweet living doll.

Jane - yes, the cake may be a little less sweet than most people would prefer but Corgis have another opinion. You could add a spoon or two of glucose next time. Glucose is good for dogs in small daily doses as well as for us humans - and it is a sweetener.

I don't think I have ever seen glucose sold as a product. It may be sold under a different name. Maybe it is corn syrup here. I did subsitute brown rice syrup for the honey. It is not as sweet as honey.

Jane - different honeys, different sweet levels. Glucose is a sweet carbohydrate that usually comes in white powered form and looks a little like flour.

Jane, we can buy glucose (powder form) from our pharmacies (chemist? drugstore?) - anyway, the place you get your doctors prescription filled at. Funny how we're talking English, but the names used for the same places can be very different.
