Corgis in Xmas Parade - 08-15-2007, 05:15 AM

Getting excited about the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club's participation in the Wellington Christmas street parade on Sunday Nov 18.
Plan to have 30 or more pure bred Corgis all walking with their happy, smiley owners and all Corgis dressed up in one way or another. A couple of kids will lead the way in holding up our outstanding large Corgi banner. A pro actress will act the part of the Queen in a continuous theatre performance. We will also have a Welsh flag bearer and several people in traditional Welsh clothes. To top it off we will have some sponsored aspect from a large company that sells and distributes pet food and pet accessories.
A crowd of 100,000 is expected to watch the parade. We will be the first dog related entry in the 60 years of the parade. The organisers are also excited by our entry. After the parade, I plan to take our people and our Corgis to a down-town cafe for a post-parade celebration.

Hah! So, do the corgis get to choose their own cossies or are we wedged into something more team like?

You can dress your Corgi anyway you wish as long as there is some representation of being 'dressed.' The pet food company (Master Pet Foods) would like us humans to wear a Master Pet Food T-shirt they would freely supply but this idea could be ruined because the company would have to also pay the parade organisers (Wellington City Council) upwards of $1000.

That sounds great! Do you think there will be photos on line somewhere for members like me that are on the other side of the planet? I bet some Corgi owner would be glad to be the photographer for the day. Probably for free.

Well it so happens that one of our members is a professional photographer
( he was a former police crime scene photographer and now teaches the art to the police - there are some 50 police photohraphers in NZ at any one time). So he will hopefully take lots of shots. I'm hopeful that there will be some TV coverage. By the way, that photo-taking member entered in Go Corgi's photo competition last Xmas.

Finalised the prep for the parade.
We will have 27 Corgis with a high ratio of Cardis.
We are sixth off the block with 78 entries in total. We are inbetween Alvin and the Chipmonks float and The Black Pearl float.
WE have to assemble 90 minutes before the start but we will be able to seek shelter for the Corgis and water will be provided.
Apart from the Queen, we will have a Welsh flag bearer dressed in a Welsh rugby shirt, two banner bearers, a drummer in uniform and a Welsh damsel in a traditional Welsh costume.
The parade will take up to an hour to complete but will only cover 1.5 km

Let us hope for great weather.

I so wish that would be on TV so we could watch. It sounds like a great time with all the corgis.

27 Corgis doesn't seem an awful lot. But the last time there were that many in the Wellington region gathered at one venue might be all of 10 years ago - and that includes regularly hosting of the NZ national dog show.
