Cool under pressure - 08-27-2007, 04:29 AM

Went fir a two hour walk along the local river trail with the Corgis last Sunday. And near the end of the walk, we were confronted on the track by a German Shepherd behaving badly. Thankfully the brute was leash held with part of the strap binding his/her mouth. I called Alice away off track and she responded beautifully ( she is such an obedient dog) but Taylor was determined to stick to the track. The GS kicked up a storm, got up on his hind legs and struggled to get free and at Taylor, but Taylor seemingly just ignored all these antics and walked dilligently past with grace and without a glance left or right. Taylor was cool.

You are lucky that shepherd was on leash! You would be wearing german shep boots after your corgis got ahold of it! hee hee!

Seriously, we walk in a nearby park that people let their big dogs off-leash. About once very few weeks Joni is held up at my shoulder level and I am yelling at owners to call their dogs. Many dogs are friendly, but a lot are not and it is very frustrating to deal with irresponsible owners that refuse to care about smaller dogs.

I have a friend who has a female boxer. . If her dog starts fighting she prefers to let the dogs sort out their differences while walking away. If the other dog's owner interfers she yells at them to not get in the middle of it. There were three scuffles while I was there.
This is a nice lady usually but I don't want to be with her at the dog park anymore. It is not a regulated park. I was afraid Duchess would be a victom by getting between the fights.

That's entirely the wrong approach by this woman with a Boxer. She should be hauled before a judge and made to do some community work and be compelled to take herself and her dog to a dog training school.
As you may recall, Boxers are the one breed that Taylor does not like. Must be something about them that promotes discontent among some dogs.
