Agility course

I took Bailey with me just to watch a friend run her two Corgis through a practice course today. It's the first time Bailey has seen anything even resembling the obstacles on the course.

Bailey finally ended up doing all the obstacles himself except the teeter totter, I did not want to scare him today with the teeter totter. He did everything, the high plank, the steep ramps, tunnels, etc. It was as if he has been waiting to do this his entire life. He did every obstacle on the first try with my help. And quickly too. By the third try he was doing them on his own. He was having a great time. I think Bailey thought it was a fun game at the park. He watched the other dogs do it first.
I really think I could have him run a complete course with just a few practice runs first. Of course this was just one day, who knows what will happen another day. But, it might be an indicator of his potential. His parents had lots of blue ribbons. I was absolutely amazed at how well he did with so little training. I can already steer him around by hand signals or voice commands. It seems as if steering the dog in between obstacles is one of the most important parts of running the course (making sure he goes to the next obstacle in the correct order).

Way to go Bailey - It sounds like he is going to be a pro.

Go Bailey Go. I bet he had a big smile on his face and really really enjoyed it all especially when let loose. Another Taylor. Five weeks of training and Taylor was ready for competition agility. Keep at it. Lots of fun.
