responses to questions from my last thread -

Hello & thanks for those who are interested in the l--o--n--g history of my communications with breeder & why I am cardiless. I spoke with breeder 1 day after pups were born. Though deposit was not required I told him/her that I would send one to hold the one male in the litter. I mailed check next day with note requesting she/he let me know when & if it was rcvd., confirmation was sent to me 16 days later! He/she promissed pics--I rcvd. 3 pics. of the puppy all on same day, as a newborn, perhaps 2 weeks or a little older. I called more than a month later for more pics. & was chastised cause the world did not revolve around me & my puppy. This was when she/he said they could go at 8 wks.,three days away. That is when I balked at early leaving litter & mom. I then asked if all pups left that early he/she said no but he would be crated until I picked him up. I guess those that stayed later would also be crated. She/he told me I would be charged room & board & charged for the next innoculations (I understood that one). I am green and Bustle

I had a lot of the same problems you did with my breeder. Impossible to get ahold of, they never want to talk to you, it takes forever to get a response... I still to this day have never heard my breeders voice. I got exactly two pictures of Westin before I picked him up at the airport, one at 2 weeks and one at 5 weeks. Those things I can deal with... being told "the world doesn't revolve around me and my puppy" when all you did was ask for pictures is a little ridiculous. And I wonder what they meant by "crated until pick-up"?
Sounds like you made a good choice by opting out of dealing with that breeder, sounds like a hassle you don't need, especially with a puppy to raise!
Good luck finding the puppy for you in the future!

I was extremely happy with the experience that I had with my breeder. She checked her email daily and always responded to me. We talked on the phone quite a few times and she also was happy to send me weekly pictures and updates. I just went back and counted all of the pictures that she sent me (including ones of the parents and littermates) and it is just over 30 pictures. She knew I wanted to make a scrapbook, and she was very nice about making sure I had pictures of Waeryn at different ages and when her ears started to stand up. She even drove half-way to meet me when I picked up Waeryn, and would have driven the whole way if I had let her.
I would not have wanted to stick with a breeder in the situation that you described. If they act like that before you even buy the puppy I can imagine that they wont want to be very involved after the puppy goes home with you.

When you say you would be charged room and board and for the next innoculations, do you mean that she is holding that money out of your deposit, or was that when you were planning to purchase the puppy? Either way, that doesn't sound right. Between that, her threatening to send your name to every Cardi breeder not to sell to you, and crating the puppy until you took it, I'm hearing a lot of red flags. Sounds like a good thing the deal is off.

I was extremely happy with my experience as well. The breeder spoke to us a number of times on the phone. She asked us a lot of questions. She also did Personality Tests on the dogs to find out which dog would best suit the potential owners. The name of the breeder was Visions Cardigan Welsh Corgis. There website is Welcome to Visions Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Holly the owner of the company is really wonderful. I think they are planning a litter for this summer.

As a breeder myself, it is sad to say that some other breeders are just like that. But it is not right for them to treat you as such. She should have provided you with a contract ahead of time stating: age of puppy when leaving, spay/neuter, your responsiblities, her responsiblities, etc. She also should at the very first contact with you-before the puppies were even on the ground, told you when she let's them leave, if you can't take the puppy at that age, what she will continue to do with the puppy. If she charges for extra time keeping the puppy, and more. Yes it can get hectic with a litter in the house, but I make time weekly to update those on the waiting list as to what is happening with the litter. I try every week or two weeks to update photos on the website. At 4-6 weeks I let them know which puppy might be acceptable for them and take a deposit then. Puppies leave at 10-12 weeks unless the puppy is going to another breeder where I might let it go at 9 weeks. It's always in my best interest to keep in touch, talk to the new families and make sure that it's the right place for the puppy.
Personally, I think it's a bit shady. Obviously she doesn't have the best interest in the puppy but in getting rid of them. My opinion only though.
I have in the the past been more then happy to keep a puppy longer, for what ever reason. Previously planned vacation, unexpected work trip, or death in the family. I never charge additional-never. I do the same training-crate, housebreaking, leash, etc. that I would do with the puppy I might be keeping. If they are there and need their next vaccination, I do it at no charge.
Hoping that you have better luck next time. There are several of us out on the list that have cardigans, know of responsible and reputable breeders that might have litters or have litters planned ourselves. Just ask and we can point you in the right direction.

Curious and curiouser ... as Cindy said, there are several of us on here who would be more than happy to work with you via referrals or advising to help you find a Cardi puppy.

Room and board for a puppy between 8 weeks and 11. What a miserable, tight-assed breeder that would be. Knew that a lot of breeders in the USA would want to sell off pups more quickly than they might otherwise so as to not incur more vet/vaccination expenses. Can't see why they just don't add it on to the selling price for the pup. Anyway, nothing too unreasonable disengaging a pup at 8 weeks. I woyld prefer 10, but when push comes to shove........ You have a breeder who is perhaps not in love with people - so you get the sloppy treatment - re photos. Some breeders are just not nice.

With all due respect to Iamgreen, it is too bad we can't hear the breeders side of this issue. To call the breeder names like Tight-assed when this person is not able to defend themselves, is jumping to the conclusion that there was no reason for their actions. Am I the only one that thinks this is an injustice?

No Jane you are not ... Iamgreen stated there was much he/she didn't understand. Being "crated" if he/she didn't get the puppy at 8 weeks might mean the breeder was going to begin crate training. If there is only one puppy of a certain sex in a litter, it is rare that a breeder will take a deposit on that puppy as it might turn out to be the keeper. Just too many unknowns to make absolute judgments.

I am prepared to accept what Iamgreen has said concerning her experiences with this breeder and her interpretation of what transpired both vocally and physically. Our member seems not to have exaggerated or got over excited in the description she has given. Even if only one of several points she has written, is correct, the breeder is not one I would like to have dealt with.
Been forced to pay extra money for a little entirely reasonable extra time the puppy has spent or was to spend at her birth place, is as tight-assed as you're going to get. I bet the pup didn't come cheap either.
