2 significant anniversaries!
I just wanted to share that today is the first anniversary of our adoption of Chloe! Hard to believe that one year has passed since we brought home that fuzzy little puppy! There is no question that it has been hard work raising her to become a good and (mostly) obedient citizen. She is still a "work in progress" - but already such wonderful and beautiful dog that we have no regrets whatsoever! She has filled our household with the kind of energy and laughter that only a dog can provide and we look forward to many more years of her companionship!
This is also my husband and my 30th wedding anniversary! (We laugh that last year we gave eachother a Corgi puppy for our 29th!) And, similar to raising a puppy, there have been ups and downs and a lot of hard work along the way - energy, laughter, and love ...and ultimately no regrets!

Cingrats Chloe Louise. It so happens to be my 26th wedding anniversary this Friday ( May 26). But I can't say that Taylor has brought joy to everyone in my household - both sons like him and my youngest has a very soft spot for him, but my daughter ignores him and my wife doesn't see anything special about him - funny because so many other people he has come into contact with - and they range in their hundreds - think Taylor is cute and gorgeous and want to take him home.
Tayor will be featured in next months New Zealand Lions Clubs national magazine - coloured photo and article on the $1,100 he has raised for cancer. So he is doing good work in the community. Anyway my wife and I are celebrating our anniversary at a restaurant we have never been to before and I've still got lots of wine - leftovers from my book launch in March. Hopefully Saturday will also be a night to celebrate - the biggest sports event on the national scene - the grand final of the Super 14 Rugby competition with my local team, the Hurricanes against the team from the South Island of NZ, the Crusaders. The match is shown on American television. These two teams are the best non-international rugby teams in the world. Chloe Louise - what did you do to celebrate your anniversary? |

THanks Linda. You are so right. He doesn't really do anything wrong and just wants to please and love everyone. He gives Leigh (my wife)a most wonderful welcome home every night from work - but the fuss is not reciprocated. Leigh has never picked Taylor up and seldom ever played with him. Taylor has now reluctantly learnt to leave my daughter alone and he doen't greet her anymore with any fondness - but he still jumps at the chance of sleeping in her room at nights.

Poor Taylor...I agree that he is such a beautiful fellow - how could anyone resist that sweet face! And it sounds like he is smart and friendly, too!! Could your family possibly be jealous of your attention toward him?
ChloeLouise IS the darling around here! Of course she is our "empty nest" dog so she is, ahem, rather spoiled...never having had to compete for attention - and even our daughter-in-law, who is not fond of dogs in general, likes her! So that makes me even more sad to think that your family isn't just crazy about Taylor... Miss Chloe got a new collar for her "anniversary" - and she got EXTRA snuggles and love from everyone. We would have gone for a walk at her favorite park but it was chilly and late by the time we finished dinner...so tonight we will indulge her!! Hang in there with your family and Taylor... |

I quite agree that Taylor deserves a great deal more affection from my family - his family. That's what he likes best - love, then food - though sometimes you would think that order is reversed!
But it's nothing new. My immediate previous Corgi, Hadlee was treated the same but he suffered much more because he didn't get other opportunities that Taylor has revelled in. But Taylor has a definite quality that none of my other Corgis ever had. I've had two show champs - one was right up there with the very best - but Taylor beats them all with his softer nature and natural charm. Here's something he's doing that I don't want to correct because it's funny. As we approach certain corners or roads when he's off-lead in the streets, Taylor stops dead sometimes as much as 50 metres before reaching the corner or side of the road and waits patiently for me to walk on and investigate if there is a clear passage from traffic for him to cross over. So I yell out "go" if it's clear and he sprints from 50 metres or even more and scoots over the road to the other side and then waits for me to catch up. That's Taylor. |

Taylor sounds like he is a very special little corgi. But then they all are. I know Chip has brought my husband and me so much as we have an empty nest also. But he also has Uncle Jim & Aunt Marilyn as well as sissies and brothers that love him too. He definitely is the baby of our family. I am very fortunate. Hang in there - Corgi's are persistant and he will win them over yet. Bonnie |

Congradulations! Butters and Ein say Hi! I have family who really don't care for my dogs too! It happens, like my dad, he loves loves loves Butters because she is so well behaved but he can't stand when I bring over Ein. She gets too hyper especially with the cat around. My 5 year old nephew doesn't like my dogs either, we bring the dogs over to my in-laws during the holidays and they like to chase and herd the kids around. My nephew doesn't like this, he looked up at my husband last Christmas and said "Why couldn't you get cats!" (My husband is highly allergic to cats and hates them anyway)

I think it is sad when family don't appreciate well behaved yet personable, lovable and cuddly-type dogs such as Corgis usually are. That they palm these Corgis off as expendable and as though they don't have feelings and intelligence, is criminal.
