Big Flyball Brag

This weekend Tab earned his Flyball Dog Grand Champion 50,000 point title! He is the first corgi ever to have reached this goal.

The team celebrated with cake:

Tab got a new toy.

And the host team gave us a cool ribbon:

Good for you Linda and for Tab - all that work, time and effort has reached its ulimate reward - unless there are world champs coming along next. You both look as though you enjoyed the moment.

By the way, TAB in New Zealand stands for our sports gambling industry. Was Tab a gamble or was he always destined to pay dividends?

"By the way, TAB in New Zealand stands for our sports gambling industry. Was Tab a gamble or was he always destined to pay dividends?"

LOL Tab was originally destined to be a show dog. He was sold to the vice president of Coca Cola. As he was a smaller corgi they called him 'Tab' after the diet coke brand of drink. When it became clear he wasn't going to be a show dog (too small and his front isn't correct) he was returned to the breeder. She decided a performance home was for him.

I happened to be at an agility trial with a friend and of course I must meet all corgis anywhere I go. Tab was there with a handler (breeder trained him and then sent him out with a great handler to trials) and I fell in love. I kiddingly said boy if the breeder ever wants to give this boy up I'd take him. I was not looking for another dog but Tab makes everyone fall in love with him.

A few months later I got a call from his breeder asking if I was serious about wanting him. The rest is history.

I did obedience, agility and herding with him. He could do them well but you could tell his heart wasn't in those sports so eventually I stopped doing them. Zoe was doing flyball so I figured I'd train Tab in that too. He could have cared less about a ball and retrieving it but one day the light bulb went on and he's been a racing fool ever since. He truely loves this sport.

Linda,

What a neat story about how you got Tab!!! - by the Way, I used to drink Tab as a teen and now I am only a "coke" girl.

Yea I don't think they make the drink 'Tab' anymore so the younger generation doesn't understand when I try to explain how my Tab got his name. :-)

Linda of Herdingdog - You've got to be cheeky sometimes to get what you want. Coca Cola should be using Tab for advertising/promoting their products. You should get in touch with his former owner.
Taylor was also suppose to be a conformation show dog but an incorrect front (that didn't show up until he was out of puppy competition) let him down, so when he turned two I turned to agility as a way of keeping him in asport competition. Taylor is only starting to get a rough idea of catching, fetching and returning a ball. I would like to try him out with flyball at some stage but I would like him to first get into the second phase of agility - that's what we call here intermediate grade and going for his ADX title.

Linda,

Michael has a great idea! Tab should be used for advertising by the Coca Cola company - if this would happen for you and Tab, I am assuming that
Michael would like a portion of the profits for suggesting it?
