Hero dogs - 07-05-2006, 07:31 PM

I'm doing a real fun - and paid - job at present. I'm in charge of the third annual New Zealand canine heroes awards. I sent out a media release yesterday which went to every newspaper including all the dozens and dozens of community newspapers, in NZ as well as all the radio stations, TV channels and so on. And I have had to field quite a few media enquiries already. I have changed some of the rules of the contest to make it more easier and accessible. There are three categories - life saving, service and pet of the year. the latter covers anything that is not a life saving effort or is not based on official service performances. Last year I had entered my Pem Taylor in the Pet of the Year segment and he finished runner-up. There are really good prizes for the winners and good publiclty. The presentation of the awards are made in "person" at the NZ national dog show which this year is on September 29 -October 1. I am also one of the three judges on the awards judging panel so I expect my travel expenses and Taylor's will be paid to attend the national show. This is good because I can enter Taylor in some of the agility events at the nationals

Yes it is fun and stimulating for me. And I get some good publicity for Corgis and my book. If the media asks for examples of what can win the Pet of the Year award, I give then a run down on Taylor Quite a few of the winners and those highly commended appear in my book Amazing NZ Dogs Stories so I can relate some of the details not well known.
