My Pawsitively Perfect Chip did well in Class - 08-11-2006, 06:38 AM

I just had to brag on Chip as he did so well in class last night. We started working on heeling, down - stay and come. The instructor commented on how well Chip "watches" me and when it was his turn to try come - he came right to me. I am so proud of him. I was worried as Chip gets sidetracked and I thought he would run to visit another dog, but he didn't. During class, Chip will lay down in front of me and watch the other dogs go through the training paces and when it is his turn, he just does it. This is his third class.

Big clapping emotion needed here!!

YAY Chip! YAY Chip's Mom! Go team, cause that's what you are. ( insert 3 pom pom cheerleaders here)

Isn't it a rush when your companion will 'watch', and prefer you to anyone else?

Oct. Dylan & I will both be well enough to return to classes, and oh how we miss them!

We shall live vicariously through yours's and Chip's. Updates are much appreciated.

Thanks Barbara. I am hoping she has an intermediate class as it is addicting. We just have so much fun and you are right it is a rush when he watches and prefers me. Chip just loves it too. When we first get there, he bounds through the door and bounds around like he is saying - I'm here, let's get started LOL and then when we get in our spot in the room, he is all work unless he gets bored, then Chip and I have a 2 minute playtime and he is ready to start work again. I never push him. He truly amazes me. When the other dogs are working and we are waiting our turn, I think he watches the dogs and then when we try, he just does it. Is that awesome or what. Do I sound excited? I just love my Chip so much. Thanks again.

Sounds like you and Chip are having fun! It's so cute that he knows he's "working" and pays attention to what the other dogs are doing...

Pems are noted for training their eyes on their owners. A lot of breeds don't do this to the concerted degree that Pems do. So eye contact and staying in tune with their owners makes it a whole lot easier for training. Good on you and Chip.

Thanks Michael - A little training paid off tonight as Chip escaped out of a small hole in the fence and went into an open field, when I called him with treats in hand, he came to me. I was so scared. I wasn't sure if he would come or not. After many tears and lots of hugs and kisses for Chip, | decided he will stay on the leash when he is outside. After church, the fence gets fixed and he can be out loose. I am so glad I keep a good eye on him even in a fenced-in yard as a person just never knows.

Have more faith in your ability as a handler and in Chip to listen and obey and then you'll both have more fun and Chip will get an element of freedom which Corgis really, realy enjoy
