I feel bad for Emma too! I have never had a dog that had heartworms but it must be hard on all of you. You are right though, Emma will be fine and playing in no time. Keep your chin up and we will keep praying for Emma and your family. Chip sends corgi kisses to Emma.

Bless your heart Leah honey, your Emma will be just fine. Be sure to follow "doctor's orders" and keep her quiet until her treatment is over. That is VERY important! The shots she got to kill off those nasty worms can make them really sore and that's why she's a little shakey. I've had several rescue corgis that had heartworms and I have been through treatment with them so I know what you are feeling and how worried you are. Emma has the best medicine in the world though - you and your family and all the TLC she can possibly need. I've talked with your "Gram" about Emma. You can hold my hand and lean on my shoulder anytime you need to and ask any questions you have.

I agree Debbie - Emma is so fortunate to have such a loving family.

Don't worry Leah. With you and your Gram looking after her, Emma will be good as new when she finishes treatment. Jackie send some slobbery corgi kisses to Emma as well . . . and some for you too!!!

All our best to Emma. About 10 years ago, I was in veterinary medicine, and saw a number of heartworm cases. The treatments then (and for years before) were dangerous and extensive. With modern medicine, the veterinary field has made tremendous progress in treating heartworm. Two injections, and some super quiet time, and she'll be better than before. I had rescued a Pit Bull from the streets a few years back, and I had him neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped, and then the day after his surgery, we had him treated for heartworm. He was a pretty active dog, and I have to say, he recovered without one bit of trouble. As long as you trust your vet, and follow instructions, she'll be good to go. Get well soon sweetheart.
