Sunday we took Gizmo up to Wisconsin for his herding test. It was all officially done by the Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club. He's now certified!

We met lots of nice folks and had a fun day!

Judy and Gizmo - Congratulations!! That is great news! Your pictures are wonderful. It looks like it was a fun place to be. Did several corgis take the test?

1st: Giz is gorgeous! What a beauty.

I have thought about trying Tucker at herding, he loves to chase geese on the schoolyards/athletics fields. But I suspect with Tuck's personal "life is one big playdate" philosophy.... he would chase the sheep for awhile but sooner or later they would have to chase him. back or he'd lose interest He is much happier being chased than chasing. Lulu loves to chase him!

Gizmo & Judy
Congratulations on your herding certification. Where exactly in Wisconsin did this take place? How many other dogs competed?

Went through all your pictures and really enjoyed them. Thanks for posting them.

Judy,
Congrats! How cool is that? first, Gizmo is sooo beautiful! I was actually thinking of trying that with Dillon. I talked to someone in one of my obedience classes who has collies and a farm with sheep and she does herding instinct testing and herding training. I havent done it yet, but really think i want to see if Dillon likes it.

My concern with Dillon is his facination with other animals poop...example, I took him to a huge field with about 75-100 canadian geese just hanging out, figured, i would let him loose and see what happened, maybe he would chase, maybe he would herd them or at least show some interest in the birds...he walked about 10 steps towards this huge flock and looked down and said " ooo ooo, look, Goose POOP!" I grabbed him quick before any eating or rolling commenced...but see I wonder if he would be interested in the sheep or their poop....a poop herder ? sigh - I still may try it out with him and see.... I loved your photos it really looked like a fun time.

The test was in Genoa City, Wisconsin, right along the Illinois border. It was organized by the Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club. They had their specialty show in Crystal Lake, Illinois on Saturday, so this gave them the opportunity to organize a group testing. I think there were 26 corgis tested that day. That is one reason I go to these sort of thing, we get to mingle with other corgis and corgi lovers. I don't think I could ever get corgi overload. Last year we attended the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Nationals in St. Louis, and it was such a pleasure to be around such a varity of the breed.

This Saturday we will be going to the Illinois Corgi Picnic, so two weekends of corgi fun!

Judy,

those pictures are just THE BEST! That looked like so much fun - how hard is training? Is it 50% instinct and 50% training or 95% training and 5% instinct? Either way I'm sure you and Gizmo have put in a lot of fun time together.

I cant help but think if Giz and Jackie Fluffy Pants had puppies they would be the cutest in the world!

Congrats to Gizmo and you too Judy!

The photos are great - take lots at the picnic this weekend too!

I'd be interested in learning about the training too - I think that would be Rupert's sport for sure! He can herd cats for goodness sake!

I too am interested and exactly what percentage of it is instinct and training.

Seems like this would be a difficult thing to practice in ones back yard in the city , unless I could rent some cows, sheep or geese - I suppose someone is going to tell me that people actually do rent their animals out.

Giz and Jackie having babies..... Imagine all that hair!
