Shippo, bounding through the snow after an unsuspecting snowball.

GO CORGI 2006 ACTION CORGI PHOTO COMPETITION WINNER

My name is Victoria. I am 22 and I live in Colorado, USA. My Pembroke Corgi, Shippo was 11 months old in Dec, 06. He came to me from Mainitoba, Canada and both his parents are Canadian show champions. Although I can't show Shippo, I plan on doing agility with him in the AKC and maybe the USDAA. I am also considering putting him through the Therapy Dog test because he seems to delight anyone he meets.

THIS THREAD IS NOW OPEN FOR ANY POSTINGS

And the winner is............

Jo Bolten, our fabulous judge, has made her choice and I'm happy to announce the following placegetters as per Go Corgi's very first photo competition:

FIRST - Astara Cheetah's one year old male Pembroke, Shippo of Colorado.
SECOND - Cheryl's one year old male Pembroke, Checkers of Utah.
THIRD - Bethany and Jim's one year old male Cardigan, Ace of South Texas.

Here's what some of the things Jo said:

There are some lovely looking Corgis entered and all look well loved members of their families. I was after a Corgi who performed an action and not just lay around. Choosing second and third was very difficult

1st/ Shippo, bounding through the snow after an unsuspecting snowball.

The photo is fantastic. The expression on the dog's face is really nice. The snowball in the air along with the movement of the dog completes the picture and makes it a joy to view. Congrats on a great shot that could grace the cover of many a magazine.

2nd/ Checkers playing in the snow.

Another trully good photo. Checkers looked like he is happily running home to mum and dad and can't wait to catch them. The absence of colour from the snow really makes the dog stand out and become the focal of your attention. Once again, expression is great and the cute little pink toes peeking out from behind are sweet.

3rd/ It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's Super Corgi.

This photo could be improved by some judicial cropping. But it is a very nice shot. I could quite easily imagine this little firecracker launching over a long jump in an agility competition. The caption was great and pushed it up the rankings.

From MR: thanks to all those who participated and have helped to set up a competition that will be repeated next year around the same time frame.
Jo has got a comment or two for all the participants and if any of the others wish to know what she said, contact me.

Cheetah - email me a brief rundown of you and Ace within the framework of 70 words for adding to the wonderful winning photo which will have home page recognition for at least the next two months.

CONGRATULATIONS to Cheetah, Cheryl, Jim and Bethany! They were all awesome entries and I wouldn't have wanted to be the judge!

All the entries could easily have one - just shows you what wonderful dogs Corgis are and how talented their "parents" are at capturing them in action.

My congratulations too!

Cheetah your Shippo playing in the snow is beautiful!

It couldn't have been easy to choose among all the wonderful pictures - all our members should be proud of their entries and their corgi, I know I am.

Congratulations to all the participants and winners! We really enjoyed seeing all the photos as they were posted. Maybe it should be more than just an annual event? If nothing else, maybe we can start up Photo Fridays again! On the downside, Jim has taken up yet another expensive hobby...photography.
