Happy or unhappy Corgi?
Is your Corgi happy or unhappy? Here are some tips.
SIGNS OF HAPPINESS Sleep 8-10 hours (normal) per day. Wake up early, search for food (breakfast). Appear bright, alert, active and solicits attention. Interact positively with other pets. Thru the morning: enjoy walks, play and social activities. In afternoon: spend time chewing on a toy, bone or other giveable and chewable objects, exploring the house, yard or socialising with dogs, people. Increased activity late afternoon and early evening, maybe some frapping, with the excitement of returning family members and mealtimes. Engaged with interest and joy - bright eyes, swivelling ears, waggy tails (if a Cardi or a tailed Pem). A quieter late evening with contentment. Staying close to people and other animals. Solicit petting. The world is at peace. UNHAPPINESS Unhappy Corgis sleep often and fitfully, entering a state of boredom and depression or learned helplessness. Lack of gainful employment leads to behaviour problems that arise as diversions eg barking, destructiveness, annoying attention-seeking, overeating. Corgis with social issues can be difficult to control, involved in confrontations, do not pay attention to their owners, may become aloof or over-attached. Their eyes don't shine and appear dull. postures change and may lack alertness and curiosity. REMEMBER Exercise is a great stress reliever, different long walks , leashed areas or off-leash areas for stimulation. Healthy and appropriate food needs to be changed from time to time to prevent boredom. Threat your Corgi to at least one new word or phrase per month to expand their communications, knowledge and understanding. Address any medical matters: Corgis are not happy if in discomfort or pain. Coax Corgis to be more social and provide opportunities Encourage to develop independence if suffering from separation anxiety. |
