If you're a Texan corgi owner, then you probably have already heard of this! It's in Carrolton tomorrow (now today) at 1 pm, at the WoofGang Doggie Daycare. I just thought I would remind anyone who may have forgotton. If you haven't heard of the event and live in Texas, there's still time! If you plan to come, please say so here: http://corgi.meetup.com/116/calendar/6811631/

So far, a whopping 34 people plan to come. I'm very excited!
RSVP'd Yes: 1
  • Freppan - Of course I'm going. Hope to see someone I know there.

Certainly! There were about 20 corgis there! All different sizes and ages and coat lengths. I met some legendary internet dog folks, too, such as the maker of the corgi clothes! (corgiclothes.com)

There were doggie cupcakes, along with sugar cookies and cake for the people.

Well I'm envious! There is no Corgi-specific group in Austin (kind of like not being able to find many Corgi breeders here). The meetup sounds like fun!

We go to a Small Dog meetup group for dogs under 30 lbs. Unfortunately (for Charlie) the majority of dogs are 6-10 pound teacup dogs or tiny chihuahuas and I'm constantly pulling Charlie away from playing too rough with the tiny dogs. He likes to straddle them like a "live" umbrella, and he thinks it's great fun. He looks like a giant to these little dogs. Another training challenge...no bullying!

We also signed up for a general (all size) Off-leash meetup group, but the coordinator has not scheduled an event since we signed up a couple months ago.

It would be nice to have a Corgi club or at least a "medium-sized" dog club here. Anyway, glad to hear you had a nice time!

There are two Pembroke Welsh Corgi Clubs and one Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club in Texas.

Bluebonnet Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of Houston - Home Page

I know that there are quite a few corgi breeders in Texas.
Contact the club nearest to you and see what you can find out.

Also, sometimes you might need to travel a bit to go to a corgi picnic or corgi meetup.

I know, I found those clubs way before I got Charlie. Two are in Houston; one is in Dallas. 3+ to 4+ hours drive from Austin one-way is a little to far for a weekend afternoon meet-up. I started a Yahoo Group board in November for Austin Corgi owners, hoping to find some local people who might want to meet. So far, I am the only member. LOL The Austin Metro area has over one million population...I can't believe there aren't more Corgi owners around.

Ok, well, it was a thought. I didn't check to see how far from Austin they were. I was hoping one was closer.

Maybe you should join Corgi-L? There's quite a few people on that list and I know of several who are in Texas. (Although not sure where in Texas.)

I joined Corgi-L too a few months ago. I haven't posted there so far. The format is so much more difficult than GoCorgi, which is much easier to read and post. I also joined a general Yahoo Group for Corgis (everywhere).

Thank you! I appreciate the thought. We seem to think alike!

Dang...my message didn't post. Chris...I looked and there are 29 people in the Austin area that want a meetup with corgis. They need an organizer. Even more than 29 corgis. Lots of corgis to hang out with.

Yes I'm one of the 29 people waiting for a coordinator. Others have been signed up as interested in the group since 2005, but no one has stepped up to make it a real meetup group.

Meetup charges the coordinator $12/month, or $144 per year to do all the work of coordinator. I'm not interested in managing the group, or begging members for donations to cover the cost. I'd be happy to donate a few bucks a month though if someone else would coordinate.

If I can get some people to sign up on the Yahoo group I started, it's free so I don't have to get stuck with the costs or beg for donations.
