Poop......(now we have this thread, lol) - 11-11-2006, 07:40 AM

Glencorgi made me think of this question, and I think that it's a good one for all of us. What is the best poop scooping device? And not necessarily the one that you use at home , but what type do you use when you are out and about, or do you just use a bag. (I would also love to know if there is anyone else out there who has to clean their Corgis cute little behind. Miss Gambler is so used to having this done that she immediately walks up to us, and goes in between our legs so we can wipe. We just say, "assume the position" and she knows what we mean.)

ok, I bought the big giant jaws pooper scooper before i got Dillon thinking that this would be what i would use to clean up his pen area. Well i used it once, hated it , way too big to do such a small job, not like i was cleaning up after a horse! So i started just using bags. I have tried many bags and the one i like the best are 100% biodegradeable and 100% compostable black bags called Biobag Dog waste bags - www.biogroupusea.com and they can be bought at petco ( in my area anyway). I have them in my purse, my car, on the "Time for a walk" corgi leash holder by the door where we go for our walks so they are easily accessable, and i always have them in my treat bag that goes with me on every walk so I am never caught off guard without a bag.

The second part, when Dillon was getting the runs more frequently I too, had to wipe him afterwards - in the summer he got a little spritz from the hose when he was a bit less than clean! Now that i have added a spoonfull of pumpkin to his food, he has not had the runs since and now i do not need to ever wipe his bum...what a treat for me... ( I used to have to keep papertowels bunched up in the treat bag , a roll in the car, one in the garage for clean up purposes before he would come back in the house. and now, no need for that).

It's not Miss Gambler's poop, even though she has had some issues there, It's her fur, and I definately want her clean, but the funny thing is, when she goes and she needs us to wipe, she gives us this disgusted look, walks between our legs, then we wipe, but most of the time, it may just be the tiniest of specks on her fur. She is a neat freak like me, or maybe they are that sensitive down there that they can tell. Maybe I should trim some fur, but I would hate to give her a bald area. Couldn't you just picture that on their cute little Corgi behind. Miss Gambler would be telling all her friends, "Don't hate me, my Mommy cut my hair."

OMG! MissyGambler's mom must by picking up my vibe because I was thinking the same thing! People make fun of me because sometimes Milo gets a little mess on his "pants" and I use huggies wipes to clean his behind. I was using those doggie wipes, you know, the kind where you get 6 of them for like $2000. (just kidding). Anyway, I asked my vet if there was any reason why I couldn't use baby wipes and he said no, just get the kind with no scent. So I bought huge pack of wipes and it is only $3 or so. Milo is so used to it now, I just pick up those 2 back legs and wipe away (just like you would a baby). I don't do it everytime he has a doodle, just when he needs it.
When people laugh at me I say, "hey i'd rather do this than clean it off of my carpet or furniture!" No one can argue that logic. I use the rolls of doggie bags that fit in a pouch made by outward hound. It dispenses a bag as you pull on them. It has another compartment for keys or treats and velcros to his flexi-leash. I know the basic plastic grocery bag is cheaper but they are so big and a pain to carry around. At home in the yard I use a pooper scooper that needs only one hand to open and close. It came in real handy one day when I found a dead squirrel in the yard....no way I was picking that up. So I used the pooper scooper to pick up mr. dead squirrel.
When Milo was at his annual appointment last year, the vet was trying to get a fecal sample (because I forget to bring one in) and I about died laughing because she did a double take and said, 'this is the cleanest dog butt I ever saw...do you wipe him??' Needless to say it was too clean to get a sample! We both laughed because it was just so silly and Milo just stood there with that Corgi grin and his clean butt.

MilosMom: I wondered the same thing about the wipes, I use the pet wipes, and they are pricey, and have thought of using baby wipes, now I know. See, this thread had it's reward.

Also: I'm going to be out shopping and doing Starbucks today with Miss Gambler(reward for going to the doctor) and I'm going to look for the biodegradeable bags at Petco, great tip!!!

Miss Gambler: I shop around at different places and try to get the best price but I prefer baby wipes to a dry paper towel or tissue because they really do clean the area as opposed to smearing it around further...sometimes it takes 2 or 3 wipes to get the job done! I also use them on dirty paws or if other dogs have slobbered on him. I admit to being pretty OCD about having a clean dog. Since Milo is a pet therapy dog and visits people in hospice or nursing homes, it is even more important for him to be clean and sweet smelling. In addition to always having baby wipes with me, I also carry hand sanitizer and offer it to patients after they have pet Milo. Few take it, they just love puppy snarkle on them from his kisses.

Hubby and I had taken Darci for a hike in our local park, we have a hiking/mtn bike trail in the woods. This was before Egan. Anyway, we were having a great time and Darci was lovin it, all the smells.
I had my poop bags and thought I was prepared...... Well not so much....

Darci had a very messy case of screaming blow sh*ts, and I had no wipes with me. She has very fluffy pants and it was a horrific mess, needless to say there was no way she could get back into my car like that, so hubby and I did what any good dog parents would do and took off our socks....

You can use your imagination for the rest.

And yes the socks went into the trash...LOL

That was some fast thinking, and thank God you were wearing socks, could have been wearing sandals. Do you think your husband would have given up his boxers?

The sock story is the funniest!! That was clever thinking! I hope they weren't argyle socks though. I love argyle. It's my inner preppy thinking this. Gosh I hope Milo never gets projectile poo. If he ever does, i'll think of the sock saga and giggle.
