Have any of you tried the honeycrisp apples? They are wonderful! I too love the McIntosh and Granny Smith, but I like the honeycrisp much better.

Let's see, from free feeding to apples

Just showed up in our stores this year - very good; on the expensive side, but a nice treat.

Oh YES!! Honeycrisp Apples are REALLY yummy! Fujis used to be my all-time favorite but, when I can get them, I prefer the juicy Honeycrisp! And, no, I don't share apples with ChloeLouise - she does, however, get raw carrots and greenbeans for "treats" as well as a small dog biscuit during the day. I can't imagine free feeding Chloe - given the chance I am sure she would devour the entire bag of chow instantly!! We feed her twice a day, morning and evening, and we use a measuring cup to portion her chow. She is -ahem- slightly on the "plump" side, so we are being more careful about how much she eats.

Margo,

That is right, you are basically my neighbor and they do also grow the Honeycrisp apple in the orchards over there in the cool weather state of Michigan.

Bonnie, yes, they do grow McIntosh.

Honeycrisps? MDH's favorite. A small local store had some about 2 years ago and they were huge. Didn't find many last year, but they are more abundant this year in NC. Even the Super Walmart is carrying them, not as pretty or big as the first ones which introduced us to them, but still good.

I used to free feed my dogs reguarly until Cheyenne got to the age that I wanted to keep her on a senior food. Then I had to start feeding at regular times and such so the dogs wouldn't eat the others food. (Keep in mind this was pre-corgi days so we're talking other breeds, most rescues, including Dalmatians, shepards, mastiff mixes, a cocker mix, a couple of shar pei mixes, and a blood hound.) Anyhow... since I started feeding at set times (2x a day) I have to say I prefer that method over free-feeding. For Cheyenne specifically she became less picky about her food and seemed to enjoy her meals a lot more. I never had an issue with any of my dogs being overweight on free-feeding (not even the lab!) but I still prefer the set feeding times. I especially like that I have a lot more knowledge of how my dog is eating which is often a big indicator of how they are feeling. With free-feeding that is a lot harder to monitor.

Okay, in case anyone visits here and wants to buy apples

Deb, I had the Honeycrisp for the first time this year when my dad gave me one. Of course when I got home, I went and purchased more.

Now back to if we Free feed our dogs

I was at super wally world tonight and what did I see ?

HONEYCRISP apples.

Oh my stars... that had to be the juicest apple I've ever had, I split it with Darci and Egan and it was a big hit with them as well.

I think I just found our new favorite apple.......

Oh good!...we've digressed back to the apple "off"-topic!! I bought a Pinata apple yesterday - it was sooo pretty, I just couldn't resist (even tho HoneyCrisps were in the next bin)... Well, DON'T bother with Pinatas! NOT tasty! You know how you're mouth and teeth feel after eating spinach?...you get the idea! I threw it away after several bites! ....maybe I should have shared it with ChloeLouise!!

I have not heard of the Pinata apple, and if I ever see it, I won't try it.
