food dislikes - 12-12-2006, 02:29 AM

I though it would be interesting to list food our Corgis could like becaue they are rated suitable for dogs yet don't like ie reject. Taylor has some dislikes and there are food items I don't offer him because I don't consider he will like them.
Here are food items that Taylor has turned away from:
Cucumber
Bananas
Apples
Raw or cooked beans
Raw carrots
Strawberries
Oranges
Spinach
Walnuts

Rhys has eaten everything on that list (except for spinach, which I heard is actually not that great for dogs).

Occasionally, he's not in the mood for popsicles.

Chip also loves everything on that list. However, I have never given him cucumbers or spinach or walnuts. Strawberries is his very favorite. I don't give him orange although he loves it because he doesn't chew it good. Sometimes, I give him just the pulp.

I have yet to meet the food, whether recommended or not for dogs, that Rupe won't eat. He'll eat something he doesn't like just for the sake of eating it.

Jemma has had most of the items on the list, and she is very food driven like Rupe and not fussy at all.

Same here, I have yet to see Cody turn his nose up at anything; however, I
have not tried the walnuts, spinach or oranges. He loves bananas strawberries, and apples.

Haven't tried walnuts, spinach or oranges (I thought citrus was a no-no . . . no?), but Jackie loves the rest. Like Jespah, I have yet to meet the food that my dog doesn't like . . . and Jackie's interpretaton of the word "food" is pretty loose!

The Girls don't care for cukes either... haven't tried spinach, lettuce, or nuts or strawberries yet.

Bananas seem to be one of Chloe's favorites - Emma is more an apple girl

I've never tried spinach or walnuts but Tuck has eaten everything on you list. Loves apples and carrots most.

I did try ti give him a bluberry once. He wasn't quite sure of the texture but after getting bluberry juice all over my floor, he did down it!

Chip's birthday is 1/11 and I would love to make him a strawberry cake so if anyone knows of a good doggie cake topped with strawberries, please share. One that people can eat also.

Huw has no discretion...if he can chew it, lick it or swallow it, he will. He had his first bit of banana last night, and loved it. He loves apples. I have to say, I have a very very clean kitchen floor. He fought for almost 10 minutes to get a piece of a cruton from between the area rug and under the cupboard. He was in my way, so I finally got it out for him. Heck, my dog thinks cat poo is gourmet...he has NO discretion (obviously).

I hate sharing my food with him, don't want the habit of begging, but I know fruits and veggies are good for them in the right quantities. I'll keep testing the overgrown guinea pig and see what he DOESN'T like (I doubt anything).

Talking Chip's Birthday Cake Ideas - 12-12-2006, 01:22 PM

Bonnie - I found this recipe at http://www.dogbirthdaysandparties.com

It sounds pretty yummy, and you can add the strawberries on top of the Banana & Mock-Choc Frosting...

Ginger Banana Party Cake

Banana and ginger combine to make an aromatic cake that's not too sweet for dogs. Chopped nuts and raisins make it a festive cake. Note: use raisins sparingly, and chop nuts well.

2/3 cup mashed bananas
1/2 cup softened butter
3 large eggs
3/4 cup water
2 cups Unbleached Flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tsp ginger
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup raisins

Beat together mashed banana and butter until creamy. Add eggs and water. Beat well. Stir in dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Add nuts and raisins. Spoon batter evenly into oiled and floured bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes. Cool on wire rack 5 minutes, remove from pan, replace on rack and cool.

Banana & Mock-Choc Frosting:

2 cup mashed banana
1 tablespoon butter
6 tablespoon powdered carob
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 tablespoon unbleached flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Blend thoroughly and spread on cooled cake. Sprinkle with well-chopped pecans and raisins.
