This is what timberwolf has to say about their wild n natural.

Hope this helps.
Thanks I will definetly keep this brand in mind.

Thanks Cindy- I was really thinking it is so very high in protein is that something to consider? also does this mean that because it is used for performance and high energy breeds, that it is higher in calories and fat? I really dont need to increase calories.. and he really woudl't appreciate getting smaller rations!

Kcals of Ocean blue is 550

Kcals of Wild n natural is 596

It is a little more but not as much as I would have thought with the higher kcals.

Heres a link for an article on higher protein.

Cindy,
Thank you so much for posting that. That really does dispell some of the myths that I have heard as well, one of the biggest concerns i had when switching my diabetic cat over to high protein low carb food was that it would tax the kidneys, and while she did eventually pass from Kidney failure, in discussing it with my vet, it was determined that the food did not cause the failure, it was most likely the anesthesia from having to pull several rotting ( and painful to the point of hampering her eating) teeth. Sadly the shut down in the kidney caused by the anesthesia would probably not have been a permanent shut down had she not been 16 1/2 yrs old fighting diabetes for 5 yrs...sigh, I digress... Sorry. I just want to say thanks for posting that for me.
( oh and the calories between the two are really not that significantly different to my surprise)

Your welcome...

I find myself laughing sometimes we both seem to be such dog food geeks.

And I say that with all the love in the world....

I was so thrilled, I found a pet store ( no pets sold there ) only food, brushes etc.

Anyway he too has done his nutrition research...... He carries all the great brands. I've enjoyed talking and learning more from him.

Cindy, i take that comment as a real compliment actually! LOL i will be a dog food and cat food geek (moreso cat food as i did even more research on that due to the diabetic kitty of mine). We have several decent petfood stores (no pets) not too far from me, I also found a pet store (with no pets sold ) with an owner who actually seems to know his stuff...I like to kind of pick his brain every time i go to that store about new brands etc. By the way, have you tried Blue Buffalo yet? I tried a can of the lamb and garden veggie and Dillon loves it - Their website is www.bluebuff.com and they are actually a CT company and the guy who founded it had a dog with cancer and after researching food a lot, he decided to start making his own...thus his creation of Blue Buffalo...

My cat LOVES Blue Buffalo.

It has been the only one I have found that she eats without a fuss. I did change her to the Lite forumla, I usually with dogs dont do a lower calorie food, but with Callie it's too hard to decrease her food amts so I am trying the lite, any thoughts ? So far shes lost 1 lb and needs to loose another 1 1/2 lbs.

I have used canine Blue Buffalo canned, mine really seem to like the flavor.

Their favorite canned so far is Innova Evo 95 % meat. Beef.

My cats never got a chance to eat the blue buffalo...sadly they were slightly too high in carbs for misty to have ( we were sticking to foods that were under 10% carbs and in her case i was usualing mostly foods that were between 0% to 4% carbs which is what she did best on ( we did Innova Evo canned and Wellness Beef Canned and Wysong 100% beef or chicken .
The hardest part is convincing a picky eater cat to change their food - if you are interested i have a site that has most of the canned and dry foods for cats (sadly none for dogs) that shows calories, carbs, proteins, and phosphorous levels ( some foods they are not listed sadly, but most are)- this way you might see the foods that are lowest in calories ..

http://www.felinediabetes.com/diabetic-cat-diets.htm

This might help.
