I have never heard that about Pork - Cody does fine with the ears - they are
hard like a rawhide and soften up as he chews on them - they don't gum up in his mouth like regular rawhides do. - I have never heard of them causing pancreatitis, but I will ask my vet if that could happen. linda |

Like chicken and any meat from wild animals, all fresh pork and pork products must be well cooked first otherwise there is the danger of salmonella etc for dogs (as well as for humans). So Pig's Ears and trots and snouts commercially packaged and purchased from vets, pet shops and supermarkets for dogs are all pre cooked and are excellent treats for Corgis.
Pork is high in potassium so it it excellent meat for the well being of a dog's heart. Best to keep dog's clear of pork fat. A little is OK but pork fat can promote pancreatitis in dogs. So in response to Chip's Mom - it is excessive feeding of PORK FAT to dogs that can cause pancreas problems NOT pork meat.. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 04-29-2006 at 08:24 PM. |

Linda,
LOL I wish Darci would be picky about food or chew treats... no just kidding. she loves everything..... Darci loves the pigs ears too.The bully sticks seems to last longer for her, but are stinky...

Darci,
Yes, Cody is kind of picky with his "treats" I buy him, but not people food - with people food, he loves everything - My 3 cats also love people food and will eat just about anything I offer them Cody just seems to like the pig ears and also "dingo brand" rawhide - other than that, he doesn't care for much of anything else. Chloe-Belle - don't take all peanut butter brands for granted. Some may contain other than pure peanut ie additives to create flavors and sweetness that would probably not be recommended for dogs.
