Dr Nick Cave does not work for Hills. He works for Massey University in New Zealand. He is regarded by Massey University as a completely independent small animal/canine international nutrition expert as does Cave regard himself. He and his team at Massey are qualified to act on behalf of AAFCO in the testing and approval of dog food as are some other specialists in some other countries outside of the USA where AAFCO is based. Cave will endorse all dog food approved by AAFCO. He may very well have done some work for Hills at some stage in the past to help Hills develop products that eventually earned the AAFCO seal of approval. That can only be positive. Hills had engaged one of the best consultants available.
Royal Canin is another dry food dog product that Cave highly recommends and some people will have a gripe against that product as well. I believe Royal Canin contains very little that is fattening and some dog owners feel that they have to give their dogs more that what is recommended so as to satisfy them. Some dog owners are pretty finicky - they don't know a good product when it stares them in the face.

I am beginning to think that Nick is offering you some free dog food if you promote it.

Linda - I wish Dr Cave would - but as I said he rates all AAFCO approved food. Apart from dry food products, he has tested more than 100 'wet' food products for dogs and found not one of these to be complete and balanced food for dogs

Dr. Cave was working with Hills to create one of their food lines...I am positive that was not done for free, therefore he is in essence working for them...

I have tried the canadae lifestages lamb and brown rice canned as the little bit of canned he has tried and he likes that too...

I give Cody "wet" food as part of his diet, it is not his sole diet. I also supplement with other foods as well as rotating with other foods so he has the best chance of getting good nutrition. And I don't believe some of the Science Hill products are any better for our dogs than some of the even cheaper generic AAFCO approved brands I have seen in the store(In fact, both basically contain a lot of the same ingredients), and you can buy a 40 pound bag for about $8

Michael, why don't you interview some other canine nutritionists,(not just one), that have not had any connection to Science Hill

Milo gets Nutro Ultra-weight loss formula. His coat shines & the vet is happy. Tried Hill's, he ate it but not with much gusto, must not be as tasty. He actually ate half and walked away. That is not a glowing endorsement from a Corgi! He is not a picky eater either, I won't put up with picky eaters.

Welcome and Saidie is a cutie!

I have a almost 2 year old Pem and 9 month old cardi. I am a huge fan of Eagle Pack but have to admit, my two get bored w/ it. I am happy with it because poo is small and firm, no gas (Tucker could clear a room when he was eating Wellness!/even though I liked it for him!).

Tuck ate Merrick dry food (Turducken and Grammys Pot Pie). And I used their canned food to mix in for awhile. Merrick canned food looks almost good enough to eat! I was really pleased w/ Merrick. If they ever totally boycott their food, I would go back to Merrick.

I just rotated the Eagle Pack fish formula for Tucker and when Lulu is 10 monts will rotate it in for her. It sounds like we are using the same foods! If my store carries Blue Buffalo, I may try that!

And Tucker and Lulu both seem to have cast iron stomachs. I think with mine it comes because they chew and eat their toys. Amazed I haven't had to have them in to the Vet for a blockage yet!

I think Merrick is totally under-rated! Tuck did very weill with it. There's just something about Eagle Pack that I like (besides the probiotics).

So far, Sadie really loves the Merrick. She hasn't really been on it long enough to notice what the stools are like.

I really like the ingredients of it. BTW, it does have Probiotics just like Eagle Pack.

The reason I took her off Blue Buffalo was she took interest in her stools. Yuck.

It just came to me what canned Merrick I fed: Napa Valley Picnic, Turducken, and one other. It looked like Chunky Soup. You could see whole blueberries, carrots, potato, huge chunks of chicken.

If I had to eat a canned food, it would be Merrick!
