Thats the crux of the matter - most Corgis wll act like they are hungry 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and straght after a banquet. The worse thing to give a Corgi is anything with sugar in it - not only is sugar not recommended for dogs at all and of no benefit to a dog but it is a great weight gainer, and is usually given to dogs as so called treats - a bit of human recipe cake here, a human sweet biscuit there, ice cream here, cereals containing sugar there, and so on.

As I have previously said, Taylor smacks his lips with his tongue from pure taste sensation - not from tedious kibble but on occasions from having some pieces of cooked heart from cattle, lamb, ox or pig (or roasted/smoked chicken) mixed into his meal.

I don't want to sound like a school teacher, but I must emphasise with regard to exercise, there is a difference between a Corgi wandering around on a large property and one which is taken on a deliberate fast paced walk/trot/run for upwards of one hour daily. That's what I mean by quality exercising. But, hey it is Corgis (horses) for courses. And physical capabilities must be recognised.

Taylor had a big energy sapping day on Saturday re loads of agility demos etc and running around and walking at the carnival park and at another park. Then today we went down to the local park in the morning where he was off-leash and in the afternoon he went on an uphill forest walk, off leash and then straight down to the shopping village and back home. There were 90 minutes in all this.

Well took Sassy to the vet and all was well, he thinks she had pulled a muscle probably jumping after one of her balls, but we started her on Glucosamine Chondroitin as a maintenance dose. I bought the kind from the vet that is flavored for dogs and she thinks it is a treat and just gobbles it up. We have taken some of everyones advice, I am still giving her no people food except I mix either 1 tbs of white meat canned chicken or pink salmon with celery, or carrots or zuchini in her food and if she has had a very productive day playing and exercising she gets 1/2 cup at night and 1/4 cup for breakfast. I had to up the night dose cause she was going back to her bowl and licking the empty bowl and would eat just dry kibble so I knew she was still hungry. During he day for snacks she will get a piece of celery and a few cherrios (which she loves, I got the multi grain ones) or a carrot and a baked doggie treat. She only gets the two treats and the 2 meals and amazingly she has dropped 1.6 pounds so far. We are on the right road here.
Michael I am going to take your advice and walk her more as the vet suggested I find other exercise than her ball playing till her leg muscle heals. She does not limp at all unless she has been outside running after her ball. But all you have to do is say the word ball and she is gone and waiting at the ball for you to get there.

Will keep you all posted.
Barbara

Good job Barbara - sounds like Sassy is on the way to being a bit slimmer and healthier - By summer she will be bikini ready..
