Thanks Debbie, is GSE- grapefruit seed extract? or is it something else, i just googled this to find out what GSE was and that was the only thing linked to immune health that i could find... I had not heard of that one yet... I will also look at the wellness line for immuno support.

The amount of Glucosamine in most of the super premium dog foods is not enough to make a difference, so adding the suppliment is really the way to go to ensure that you are giving them enough. same thing with vitamin C- the glucosamine i use has vitamin C in it but only 10mg which is not enough... that is why i add vitamin C. The glucosamine i use is joint care by dr fosters and smith, it is granulated and easy to mix into the pumpkin, yogurt and small bit of canned food that i mix the dry food into - the overall cost seems pricey but it lasts a long time, so overall it is not that expensive... i think i pay $55 for a bottle but it lasted about 11 months with one dog, and now i have two so i am figuring 5 months per bottle with two dogs... not too bad..

I have also read this - but I have seen it work in my own dogs and others, so, I am inclined to ignore the written and go on with supplementing my dogs. It's worth a try Cindy, if it works for your dog, great, keep it up.

I know of some dogs who can't handle the pills that are designed for humans -they make them sick to their stomach, but when switched to powder or as an added ingredient to a supplement were just fine.

Thanks all.

My son was happy to know he would be sharing his organic yogurt with his new dog when we get it. He has a cup of yogurt each night because he doesn't like the taste of milk. So he'll put a heaping teaspoon in the dog dish when he dishes his out.

I know vitamin C is easy to add because too much gives the runs, but we have the 100mg chewables. Vitamin E I have and fish oil left over from Pepper.

I suspect I'll wait until the puppy is older to start the vitamins or could we start when we get the puppy (min. age 9 weeks old)?

Merrie, I do believe that Debbie and Peggy both give their puppies added vitamin C at a young age, so by the time your puppy is old enough to come home they should be fine with some added vitamin... they can correct me if i am wrong...
