Speaking of nutrition.... - 04-01-2007, 10:14 AM

In an effort to vary his diet, Milo saw fit to snatch a half full bag of popcorn off of the coffee table. (The night before I had some popcorn while watching a movie and rolled up the bag and put it on the coffee table and promptly forgot about it).
It sat there all day while I was at work. When I came home and after taking Milo for his walk, I went upstairs to gather a load of laundry. When I came downstairs what did I find? Milo had taken the bag over to his bed, managed to get it open at the seam so the bag was open flat and by the time I got there he was licking the bag clean. Not a kernel or crumb remained. I appreciated the fact that he took it to his bed so not one drop ended up on my carpet. I told him he was naughty. He just looked at me as if to say, "hey lady you were the goof that had the popcorn where I could get to it, so that makes it fair game..." The next day he was making popcorn doodles in the yard.

Oh yikes!! Not sure how it works with dogs, but I know my daughter can NOT have popcorn right now as it really seems to hurt her inside! Like diverticulitis, I guess popcorn in children CAN cause problems. Wondering if there's a chance it's the same in certain dogs?

I'm assuming that it's because the DD is so young <not quite 2yrs old> that that's the reason for the issue and she'll outgrow it?

Yum popcorn - good one Milo, next time try and get a good cold drink with it!!!

I feed both mine peices of popcorn when I have it, which is several times a week - they've never had an issue with it. I have only seen the evidence of it from the other end when they've eaten the kernals which require a much longer digestion period that they have.

I slip my two a few pops here and there.

Tucker enjoyed the Doritos he hijacked from the men ice fishing last month...

I think corgis really like corns! The other day, I set down a plate of breakfast, filled with muffins, chocolate madeleines and corn bread on the coffee table. Right when I turn away to make the coffee, I saw a blur of golden brown from the corner of my eye. And it was Milo, silent like I never heard him before, with two paws on the table and head extended quietly to gently pick up the corn bread. Of course, by the time I recover from the shock (shocked because he was very very very quiet, very unusual) the corn bread was gone and he looked like an angel.

Btw, the muffins and the madelines were untouch and undisturb.

Can't see a lot of harm with quality popcorn ie no stone-like grains, no sugar, only pure butter and a little salt added to corn.
There are much worse things for a Corgi to gorge on (pig out on).

Argh - CORN! Millie's favorite food! We grow it in our garden, when the racoons get in there and tear it apart Millie sneaks in and eats the corncobs and leftover ears. Then there's the compost heap - we bury the corn stuff but she digs in and gets it out anyway. Hers poops during harvest time are just cock full of kernels. And popcorn, as soon as she hears the cellophane being ripped open and before we get the packet into the microwave, she's there and waiting. She is a dog obsessed with corn.

Milo, no movie?...just popcorn? Zachary eats popcorn too. When I make some for myself with a little butter on it, he gets a few pieces. He only likes the ones with the butter though!
