Pumpkin Question - 08-27-2007, 04:28 PM

I got a can of 100% pure pumpkin today to add to the kibble for my dogs. Do I just open it and add it, or does it need to be cooked?

Also, how long will it keep in the refrigerator after opened?
Thanks.

You just use it the way it is. It's been cooked before it was canned. I use a large spoonful.

Mine keeps about a week in the fridge after opening. You can also put it in ice cube trays or on a cookie sheet in spoonfuls and freeze them. Shouldn't take long to thaw one or two for each day's use. Or feed them frozen while it's still so warm.

Just feed it straight from the can. Add about 1 tablespoon to their meals. It'll keep about a week. You can split it up and put 1/2 in a container in the freezer if you want.

We add the pumpkin straight from the can into Buddy's Kong and freeze it overnight. Then, the next day or so he can enjoy it as a treat/toy. One of his favorites!

Also, you can mix it with plain yogurt and freeze for a treat as well.

Many years ago i use to shred and crush various veggies from a raw state
(which of course is best for dogs) which included a predominance of pumpkin. I scooped the mixed veggies into ice cube containers and froze them and every day I would unfreeze a cube or two and add that to my Corgi's dinner.
