Charlie and I are going to a small dog meet up later today (if it doesn't start raining).

Last night I boiled skinless chicken thighs, cut them up in small "treat-sized" bites and froze them for some yummy park treats. I'll be mixing them in a ziploc with some of his regular kibble. I may be the hit of the dog park.

How about some strawberries and Cool Whip!! Bubba loves carrots raw. I break off about a 4-5 inch section and he chews on it for what seems like 20 minutes.

I make homemade Frosty Paws for my dogs. So much cheaper, and a nice treat in the hot summer. I don't know if you would call that healthy, but my dogs love them.

A few strawberries would be ok, cool whip has a lot of sugar and calories and isn't such a healthy thing for dogs (or us to be honest!)

Try giving him whole baby carrots to chew on and eat. They work great too.

Cheerios are great healthy treats too.

Strawberries and cool whip is what Chip got for his birthday. Not many and no added sugar and only a pinch of cool whip. We also had it 8 months later in celebration of Bubba's birthday. The only time this treat is given is for the three brothers birthday celebration.

You could substitute plain yogurt for the cool whip and it's healthier. My dogs LOVE frozen yogurt.

Thanks for the suggestion. Dale's birthday is coming up next week and I may try that. Mine like plain yogurt too. Although we may have something besides strawberries for Dale's birthday. I might go with a regular puppy cake not sure yet but I could replace the ice cream with the plain yogurt.

Yeah, 100% natural yoghurt will be healthier and non fattening than any icecream or cool whip. Fresh fruit with natural yoghurt - sounds great.

Treats for corgis - 11-19-2007, 07:35 AM

My dog is a real grazer, in the late summer we have to keep him out of the tomatoes. I've no idea if tomatoes are good for a Cardi, but, Will loves 'em. It's even funnier now that the leftover tomatoes are frozen.

Just a note on tomatoes...the plants and green tomatoes can be toxic to dogs, but red ripe tomatoes are fine. The plant is part of the nightshade family, and green fruit has a toxic alkaloid which is metabolized in the plant when the tomato ripens.

I fenced off my tomato plants this fall because Charlie has to "taste" everything that grows.

Tomatos are good for your corgis....mine love them. I give them 1/4 cup tomato juice to combat the dreaded yellow spot on the grass. Otherwise, they are still eating my tomatos that are on the cupboard ripening from the summer. They probably get at least 1/2 a large tomato a day. I grew these yummy large Yellow Boy variety last and this year. They are a low acid. Great producers. Real good.
