dog food review site

I ran across this site that does dog food reviews.

Dog Food Reviews - Dry Dog Foods - Powered by ReviewPost

It looks like a decent resource to me but I'm sure that others on the list have probably seen it too.

Any thoughts/ideas on how reliable this might be?

I really like that website, and used it quite a bit when I was trying to decide which adult food to switch Charlie from puppy food. The food review page is part of a boxer breed website, so not all food brands are reviewed.

My other comment on the site is that I found all of their top, 6 star, rated foods to be much too high in protein for puppies, and probably for any "couch potato" adult Corgis. My top 3 choices were all on the 5 star list, which made me comfortable with the other research I had done. If Charlie becomes an "athlete" in a year or so, we'll move to the 6 star protein levels.

Nice find!

Another good place to look is at Whole Dog Journal and their annual review of dog foods. This last issue was on dry kibble foods. They do a raw review, a wet food and treat review also.

I'd be curious to know the top 10 foods recommended by Whole Dog Journal, but since I've just happily switched to Canidae, I don't want to pay for a subscription. Cindy are the training (and other) articles in Whole Dog Journal worth the price in your opinion? I'd like to see a few issues before ordering the magazine, but it does look like interesting. I'll check the pet store next time I'm there to see if they stock it.

One other thing that stood out on the link posted by PupsNPonies is the numbers of foods in each "Star" group. The 5-6 star top rated foods total 70. Lumping in the 3-Star food which are probably "pretty good", there are a little over 200. There are over 700 1-2 Star foods, many of which we recognize from the grocery store shelves, vets' offices, and others with "pretty" packages that "look" premium.

My take on these numbers is that they show the importance for every pet owner to really do some independent research on foods so that each of us knows what's going into our dogs' bodies and why. There's a lot of junk food in the market, making lots of profit for the manufacturers.

The Whole Dog Journal, I know longer support because of their increasingly animal rights slanted subliminal type message. Outside of the top 10 food list, I have no longer have much use for it.

I like their training articles and they do have some good health articles. To be honest, any magazine related to animal issues-horse, dog, cat, reptile, supports something I don't really approve of. I tend to weigh what benefits I get vs the down side, when chosing what to read or purchase. If I really wanted to not support something, maybe it should be AKC with their high volume breeder program--tongue in cheek here-just trying to make a point.

Also, they don't do a top 10, they just have a recommended products based on certain criteria.

Thanks for the input!
I have done a lot of research due to Tucker's chronic "itchies" . When I first looked at the site, I thought there were none on the 5 and 6* lists available in my area. Then I found out that a health food chain here sells the Canidae and the price is pretty comparable to brands like Nutro.
Tucker and Abby are happy and that's all that matters!
