More food not for Corgis

You should not feed your Corgi any of the following;

Apples, apricots, cherries, peaches and plums

The seeds of these fruits are toxic to dogs. So remove the seeds if you can before giving your Corgi any of these fruit. Also toxic are the stems and the leaves,

Alcohol

Ethanol in the alcohol is toxic to dogs.

Baking powder and baking soda

Often one of these ingredients are used in baked goods such as cakes. Can lead to electrolyte abnormalities, heart failure and muscle spasms in dogs.

Avocados

The fruit as well as the bark, seeds and leaves are toxic to dogs.

Chocolate

Well documented: toxic. Can cause death.

I have to watch Duncan like a hawk around beer. He's a sot! The first day I brought him home, I had a glass of beer beside me on the ground and was talking to my husband. Next thing I know, I hear a couple of laps and grabbed the glass off the ground where he was trying to have a good old time with the beer. To this day, if an empty bottle is close enough for him to grab, he'll try and sneak off with it, the little turd.

Charlie would also like to be a beer guzzler (if I wasn't such a stick in the mud). The first evening my neighbors invited us over to visit with them and their dogs, a beer got tipped over on the outdoor patio. Charlie was the first on the scene as a "one-tongued" clean up crew...faster than a garden hose sprayer, more powerful than a wet-vac.

Copper isn't much on for beer, but he does love some mountain dew. We were sitting on the porch one evening and I left my cup on the ground next to my chair and he drank about half of it before I realized what he was doing.

I just remembered another time about beer and Duncan. One day, there was an empty beer bottle by my husband; Duncan walked up and took off a couple of feet from us with it. We were laughing at him, laying on his side on the ground, trying to get that last couple of drops out of the bottle, sticking his tongue in as far as it would go. When, he put the bottle between his paws, picked it up as he rolled over on his back and was laying there with it up in the air between his paws as if drinking from it....and NO camera within reach!

I recently had published a story involving a dog who stole bottles of milk from neighbours for several months and expertly removed the foiled caps before drinking most of the content.
I had two Corgis who grabbed a bottle of home-made vegetable wine and drank the lot between them - and were both drunk as a consequence.

Now, that was clever of those two dogs getting milk. I bet everyone was surprised when they found out who the culprit was that was taking the milk.

Yes, the owners of the Milky Kid were - they had wondered who was stealing neighbours milk and dumping them empty on their property. The owners recitified the situation and biuilt a fence which kept the Kid confined. A few years later, the milk ceased to be delivered to households as a glass bottle with a foiled cap - they came in plastic with a screw cap.

I never thought that dogs really even liked apples. I always chop the apples up for them and make them do tricks for them [this includes Ein and my Husky, Nanuk, and the foster Boxer that is Sasha] I never knew that the seeds were dangerous, but thank god that I never gave the seeds to the dogs [that's just common sense right?]

The seeds/pits of the above mentioned fruits contain cyanide (or a form of it). More danger if the casing/hull is broken.

Some dogs will pick up apples fallen from an apple trees and eat the lot and by the same token they could easily swallow plums etc whole thus consuming the stone (seeds) of the fruit.

It might be small enough to go through her. If not watch for impaction. (Can't have a bowel movement, or possibly won't eat.)
