One thing I discovered in my shopping at the Greenville, SC shows was a doggie dessert line just introduced by Nutro dog foods. Is this a clever marketing gimmick or what?
They are called Natural Choice Healthy Desserts and come in Berry Cobbler, Apple Crisp, Pumpkin Crunch and Carrot Cake flavors in 3 oz (85g) cans. (100 calories per can) Not only did I buy some to go in the picnic basket of sample dog foods, treats and canned foods I'm doing for the Cardi supported entry, I also tasted the Berry Cobbler. The vendor opened a can - he took a bite and several others around did as well. <LOL> As to what it tastes like - (and I thought of Michael here and his view of corgi discriminating palates <g>) well it isn't awful. It reminded me of some of the sugar free foods my diabetic grandfather had back in the days when saccharine was the only sugar substitute around. Kind of a berry flavored very bland oatmeal type cookie. <LOL>Debbie |

That reminds me of the story floating around aout 15 years ago, that a certain large nationally commercial pie-producing company in New Zealand, were big buyers of cans of 'jelly meat' dog food. And the canned meat went into their mince pies as a filler ie a large part of the contents of each pie. Well that would be alright I suppose, but for the fact that this canned dog food was rather ghastly and third rate and the kind of meal an unloved dog would get or the cans of food would be purchased by a dog owner who didnt have a clue what's best for their dog.

*~* YEAH...for Nutro !! I have been using Nutro Pet Food ever since I adopted my kitty Sunshine. I first used their Natural Choice Kitten Food...then, switched to their Cat Food. Later....when we bought our Rottweiler, Ninja, I fed her Natural Choice Lamb & Rice Dog Food. Ultra wasn't even conceived (lol) yet. I am extremely impressed with Nutro and I also WORKED as a Demonstrator in Petsmart, Petco & Pet Warehouse stores. ** I had no clue that there is a NEW line of dessert doggie treats. I guess...I need to go SHOPPING !! C~Ya !! *~* Nikki

I too will need to go shopping. I am hoping that the Petsmart in my area carries these new deserts. I will buy some for our upcoming camping trip. Sassy loves camping as neither my husband nor I have anything much to do when we are camping after the first day of getting set up other than playing with Sassy, luckily she is well behaved enough that we can turn her loose (as they require them to be on 8 foot leash at all times) and she and I play ball and what not and we walk all over the campground and when we go exploring to other places her nose gets a good work out. She loves it when we go off camping in the mountains. Thanks for the tip of the new deserts.

To top it off - she asked me if I was going to get some dog food and I said "well, I already have to finish what I have..." and she said I was not leaving without food. She gave me a FREE 20 pound bag of Natural Choice Lamb & Rice! I thanked her heartily. I also made sure to get one of each of the desserts.Rhys and his Lab girlfriend, Lulu, split the apple torte can yesterday (I fed it to them with a spoon ). They LOVE it! And it's only 100 calories! I think Rhys has a new favorite treat. And, like Debbie, I tasted it also. The apple torte tastes like not very sweet apple/cinammon oatmeal. It smells divine, though. The dogs had great breath afterward.
